The 2021 Acura TLX Type S ($62,375 CAD, ~$54,645 USD) has finally arrived, marking 11 since the Type S nameplate has been on any vehicle from Acura. It has an Acura-only turbo V6 engine making 355 horsepower, and a newly updated SH-AWD system that’s been designed to offer more performance and improved handling. Thomas and James are interested in seeing what the TLX Type S can do when pushed to its limits. That means it’s time for a track test! SUBSCRIBE!!!

Most type s buyers are not going to track this car. The exterior and interior design, tech, comfort and MSRP are more important. I think Acura did a great job with this package.

I think you guys are the only ones to give honest reviews. Everyone else seems to suck up to the dealerships for letting them borrow their cars.

I just picked my Type S up 3 weeks ago. I love it so far. I don't want my car to be oversteer on highway ramps. It looks much better than any competitors. And still faster then 80% of cars on the road. And not many Type S Tlx running araund in town. I'm happy with my decision.

From the perspective of someone who has owned a 4th gen Acura TL with SH-AWD for 7 years, I was puzzled by the attempts in the video to get the car to turn in better by trying to defeat SH-AWD, rather than by taking advantage of it. This system will apply 70% of available torque to the rear wheels under acceleration, and up to 100% of that to the outside rear wheel in a turn. In my experience, the best way I get my TL to turn in more is to give it MORE throttle in the middle of a turn. An SH-AWD car is not going to fishtail like a RWD car (which is caused by drivetrain torque and lateral acceleration overpowering available tire grip), so don’t try to force it to. My TL is dimensionally about the same, has a shorter wheelbase, and weighs about the same as the current TLX. It will turn with other cars considerably smaller than it is.

These guys are some of the most informative & honest guys on YT. Very thorough on a cars specs & always brutally honest on a cars flaws & pros. I had the same opinions about this car as these guys.

I woke up, grabbed my coffee, opened YouTube, and got really excited! Allll for Honda to disappoint me, yet again.

The Type S is a good-looking ride and white is a great match for its body. Thanks for the Stinger comparison mentions. It's a car that's totally underrated and apparently on its way out 2022.

Another example of Honda not smashing it out of the park when they had the chance. In this class of of entry level sport sedan it's all about bragging rights. Offer something that stands out.
Most Tech
Most Power
Most Speed
Most Value
You absolutely need to nail ONE of these to even have a chance.

The TLX is heavier and slower but the on road presence is huge compared to the other cars in the group. It looks so wide and low and the paint colors they offer really stand out.

Honestly as long as the transmission holds up it would probably be the most reliable in the class. Especially with forged internals.

That's one drag race James was happy to lose! LOL

This Acura feels very unremarkable!!

I think this is one of the best looking Acura’s of all time, especially of the modern age...

Lowest power in its class
Heaviest in its class
A l m o s t smallest rear seats in its class
1 Foot longer than all its competitors
Worst fuel economy in its class
Marked up $10, 000 at all dealerships

im glad you guys offer such honesty. I think acura/honda being the way they typically are don't put an emphasis on speed/power, I'm interested to see how this holds up in the next 5-7 years compared to its competitors.

Thank you James - if you "own" the car, you don't have to look for push button shifting. You also will never confuse the rotary transmission for the volume knob. Or anything else. You get used to anything.
