The 2021 Acura TLX Type S Delivers the Total Performance Sedan Experience | MotorWeek Road Test

It has been thirteen years since we’ve seen a Type S badge on an Acura. Well, it has returned and bringing it back is the already delightful TLX sedan. But, naturally the Type S TLX is now the best performing Acura four-door ever. Sounds like the type of Acura that we need to hop in and put down the hammer.

I think this car is really at its best on back road twisties. It's not the fastest in straight lines at all but I think it's rewarding in dynamic driving situations

Pretty good value for $54k, but there is a very nicely equipped BMW M340i Drive at our local dealer for exactly $60k. For a little more money, the BMW goes 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. I usually keep cars for 8-12 years, so I would buy the Acura for reliability, but if I wanted the performance, I would lease the BMW 340i, and let someone else worry about the repairs out of warranty.

Driven it multiple times and it excites every time. I’m a fan of the m340i but I think the Type-S is better and more special of a car. I love this car!

Absolutely love my Type S. Best looking sports sedan in my opinion both inside and out. Plenty quick and handles great while also being comfortable.

I like it but, I can't afford it at this price range. I like and still on the hunt for the 2008 Acura TL Type-S with the 3.5 L V6 286 HP. Its a timeless 3rd Gen design favorite of mine yet I own a 2006 base model with 258 HP.

Would have loved to see this at least hit the 4.5sec mark to 60. While 5.1 is more than most people need, this is marketed as a performance sedan and it’s doing numbers an IS350 was 15 years ago.

0-60 in 5.1s is surely the slowest performance sedan experience at that price range, I'm not expecting class leading acceleration like BMW or Tesla, but at least make the Type S competitve to a G70 or Q50...

This is an AMAZING 🤩 Car!! So much fun driving the type s. All my friends enjoy blasting their music and going on back road adventures. Also for road trips in comfort mode, it is such a comfortable ride!!

5.1 to 60 is more than enough real world passing power. Anything under 6 is respectable and does the job in 98% of circumstances.
Honestly i'd rather this do 5.6 to 60 and get 27.7mpg rather than it's 5.1 to 60 and 23.7mpg
