I love Yotsuba so much but she honestly didn’t deserve to be picked- The characters I felt that had the most chemistry with Futaro were Miku, Itsuki, and Nino. Itsuki being the first one to ask to tutor them. Yotsuba being his childhood friend. Miku being one of the first ones to fall for him and listen to him. With Nino having a love/hate relationship with him. Ichika and Yotsuba felt too much of a friend to him tbh- It just felt so rushed. I really regret spending money on this series:( (I read and bought vols 1-6 while in treatment so I kinda just binged it) Really wished I just watched the anime. (I HAVENT READ IT IN A WHILE- IM STUPID HDDCHBA SORRY FOR THINGS THAT ARENT CLEAR-)

Yeah, I think this is just another case of difference in cultural value in terms of what someone deserved based on their actions. I understand why would many overseas fans would get upset over the other girls not getting the W, and Yotsuba being the winner despite seemingly 'no efforts' in the relationship.

But that's the thing. As far as I personally know, in western cultures, people's individual value is judged based on how much efforts they put in order to strive themselves as an individual. Those who worked the hardest will usually be seen as the one deserving the promised reward. It makes sense why most overseas fans would get mad over the 4 girls not getting the W despite all of their active efforts pursuing the guy, it's understandable and is indeed upsetting.

But in Japan and some Asian regions, to my personal knowledge, that value is measured differently. Japan in general values families, honor and sacrifices towards a greater society. The act of supporting and living for their significant others such as close friends and families is seen much more highly there, compared to the idea of individual value that western culture has.

In that regard, it would make sense why Yotsuba was the one getting the W, as in the overall story's context; throughout the entire manga, despite clearly in love, she quite literally avoid any sort of romantic relationship as much as she can with Futarou for the sake of her sisters' happiness who genuinely are trying to chase him. She tried to deny her own happiness so that her sisters can have theirs, and that's why Futarou choses her. It's just Japan doing its Japan thing.

Now I'm not trying to support the story ending itself. Because to me, personally, the real trigger that makes the fans mad is the lack of clear development Yotsuba actually has. Not saying that she didn't have any developments, it's just those developments has almost zero relations as to why she got the W. Her victory almost seemingly like came out of nowhere is basically what I think the real overall problem is.

But then again, that's just my two cents on the whole controversy. I just feel like it could've worked had it been executed much better than what the Manga did.

Maybe someone will disagree, because everyone has their own favorite girl, but it seems to me that Yotsuba is the best option, since Futaro felt really good and free only with her. The rest, let it be for the sake of being with him, but they lied to him and others, pretended, loaded him with their problems.
