Why are there so many more women than men in Russia?

"Countries of the Slavic lineage in Eastern Europe are rumored to have many beautiful women. Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic three countries (likely referring to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania), and Russia are the most notable among them. However, a common point in these countries is that it's not easy for these beautiful women to get married. This is because of the shortage of men.

Russia's population is roughly 145 million, but the gender ratio is an extreme imbalance of 86:100. Looking at the entire population, there are a whopping 11 million fewer men. Considering the global average gender ratio is 101.7:100, with slightly more men, one can understand how serious the gender imbalance is in Russia.

In relation to this, it's said in Russia that 'once they reach their 30s, men start to disappear, and by the time they start receiving pensions at the age of 65, less than half remain'. What's happening to the Russian men?"

Interesting! Having Russian friends (females), for a very long time, they told me about this long term issue they have. Alchol and gender unbalance create a lot of marital problems and divorces.

I know another reason only barely touched at in this video: Very unhealthy working conditions in the heavy instrustry which has been a mainstray of Russian instrutry even Stalin.
I once saw a newspaper difference from the nickel refireny plan Franlobricke in Kristiansand, Norway, and the one in Nikel in Russia. Working at Franclobricke the workers looked like astronauts, at Nikel at they had just an oxytank on back and a trunk to breathe trough...

Your analysis is spot on.... I have male and female friends in Russia. The women take very good care of themselves. They won't even go to the grocery store without getting dressed up. Even older Russian women tend to be much healthier than the men.

My male friends, even older ones take unnecessary risks; drinking, smoking, careless driving, fighting, and dangerous sports. Although most Russians can hold their Vodka and can drink Americans under the table, their livers say otherwise.

I have great grandparents from both Saint Petersburg Russia, and Odesa Ukraine. Back then, it was all part of the Russian Empire. If they could see the mess there today, they would be turning over in their graves.

Having spent some time in Russia for business this is spot on. One common issue i have been told about is, in winter, men who get drunk and then fall asleep waiting for a bus to go home, . or just fall down walking home. They most often freeze to death. I have never seen this this myself as i don't wander around in the early mornings, but i would not be surprised.

I live in Minsk and I confirm that we have so much more women compared to men. It's true to a point that 90% of people in the streets are women! And it's been like that since I can remember. At school we had one boy literally and 16 girls in my class. At university all 13 girls in my group. I still think that fewer boys are being born for sure, plus we should take into account the effect of wars, alcohol abuse, smoking, lack of proper medical treatment (men don't like going to see doctors).
