Why are there so many Female Archers?

Haters will say that this is all just an excuse to try out some new looks. Obviously that would be grossly reductive, but which was your favourite outfit?

I appreciate that the ending message of this video isn't "don't show less female archers", it's "show more of everything else!"

This is why I love this channel. This madlad just attacked his camera with a foldable chair and dressed into a dress to prove a point.

I love how this is half archery, half thirst trap.

Fun fact: in the Regency Era, archery was one of the appropriate hobbies for upper class women. So archery would be completely historically accurate in Bridgerton.

“There’s somewhat of a stereotype about skinny twink archers!”

This is such an excellent disection of gender roles and combat in both a historical and modern sense. (Also great costumes)

This has to be the best channel I've found this year. Archery, history, fantasy, comedy and even pole dancing.

I honestly want a movie where a female main character uses a folding lawn chair as her primary weapon, that would be badass

I don't know what I loved more: the message or the costume changes

When you mentioned the effeminate elves, my mind naturally went to Lord of the Rings, which is one of those few places where every trope is either subverted, played to, or founded, all to great effect. Specifically, how Legolas is one of the more famous fictional archers of the modern day and Eowen, one of the only female fighters Tolkien wrote, actually fights as a frontline fighter.

(Archery instructor here) Archery is such an awesome sport because you can include people with all kinds of disabilities! Wheelchair, missing arms even, missing legs, lost or impaired senses like hearing; it's great. Teaching archery is my FAVORITE thing to do with my campers. Anybody can do it and it's so rewarding and makes you feel like a warrior. Also, thank you so much for recognising and bringing light to sexualisation in the industry and gender inequality, I can see that it really peeves you and it's wonderful to see a fellow archer, or fellow sportsperson of any kind talking about athletes and performers who get less opportunities than others, and wearing non-masculine clothing NOT meant for a joke. You're a good man.

I appreciate that we've been seeing characters like Holga in the D&D movie and even Luisa in Encanto, who are physically powerful but aren't automatically coded as "masculine" or whatever or, worse, just treated like a punchline. It's possible to be strong and still feminine, just as it's possible to be physically weak/small and still masculine.

One thing that really hangs people up about portraying large, strong, imposing women is that people don’t find it “realistic.” But at the same time, the main characters in these types of stories aren’t usually meant to be average, they’re meant to be exceptional. Whether the average man is bigger than the average woman doesn’t have any relevance when you’re characters aren’t meant to be average. And there’s plenty of exceptionally large and/or strong women that exist in reality.

And people will counter with arguments similar to “the strongest man in the world is still stronger than the strongest woman.” But that doesn’t matter to a narrative or to the plausibility of an exceptionally strong woman being the strongest person in whatever situation she finds herself in. When some male action-character exists, we usually don’t need to believe that no stronger men than him exist anywhere in the universe to enjoy his imaginary feats. And we’ll even suspend a HUGE amount of disbelief for a character played by Tom Cruise, a slender and short man in his 50’s. Nobody is freaking out about his roles just because taller/stronger/younger men are fairly common.

I was not prepared for the thirst traps, but rewatched because of them!
What a way to show off your physique!

We need more strong female characters like Holga Kilgore; and more smooth-talking, "Finesse" oriented male heroes like Cary Elwes in Princess Bride and RH: Men in Tights.

i say the true reason more female characters dont have swords is that there aren't enough lesbian writers for big movies

This channel is renewing my interest and love of archery. I love how you just smash the arguments of "That's not realistic!/Too many women archers!" that people for some reason tend to have into the dust with your videos and prove that you can do a bunch of crazy stuff, and that archery is for everyone.

I need a bow and a range and the money for both lol

I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. Also thanks for the line about strength and height overlap. I'm cis female, 230 lbs, just under 6ft and built like a tank, this is just the reality I live...but still somehow get told regularly that women are weaker than men, as if ALL women are weaker than ALL men.

Side note, but this was one of my biggest gripes with the Expanse TV series. I love the actress who plays Bobbie, no shade on her at all...but in the books Bobbie is supposed to be gorgeous and also *monstrous*, like there's even a quip where James is trying to decide if he is attracted to her or terrified of her, and THATS what I'm dying to see more of in media. I don't need it to be a big plot point, just normal female athletes who happen to be swole AF. DC came close by using real athletes as extras in Wonder Woman. But I want (Give me more Karlach in Baldurs Gate 3!)

"we all know there is significant overlap between the height ranges and strength ranges of men and women.... but hollywood doesn't" i'm dead🤣🤣🤣🤣
