"I don't know why, but 'Given' hits differently in every romance series/movies. I wanna share some insights I realized through watching this series.

The winter song (Mafuyu's first song) gives me the essence of pain, denying of loss, and finally being able to admit the pain in the heart that will never leave you or a horror that keeps repeating in you, keeping you in this stuck loop. But through the song, through accepting the pain, through letting it out, you'll be able to understand more of your feelings and acknowledge it. 'That you can't control emotions.' You'll be able to bear the baggage once you let some things go and move forward to something new that can help you hold on.

While in this 'Yorugaakeru' or 'A Dawn Will Break, ' these really give us the sequel or closure of the painful love. Mafuyu relates to Ugetsu how they want to keep the love that's toxic or always hurting them just because of the familiarity of being together. That doesn’t mean we don’t move forward, right? (Ugetsu and Akihiko's love was good at the start, but it gets more and more painful to keep on as they both struggle with their own baggage.) You'll need a love that will help you and give you hope (just like Mafuyu and Ueno's love. Mafuyu found himself loving him as he wants to live his life too, as he wants to leave the pain that Yuki left him). As the song goes by, 'even if we cry this night, we'll eventually stop crying and a sun will come up tomorrow.' Living always in pain will never stop us from keeping living, so it's our choice in the end whether or not we want to see the hopefulness that comes from tomorrow."

It's been more than a month since I've watched this but I still can't get Given out of my head. I wish there will be a new season with more performances/soundtracks because I really love the songs in this.

Literally sitting here sobbing my eyes out. The Lyrics somehow perfectly capture the feeling after a bad breakup when you are lost in life, you want to get better but cant really find the power to get out of that depressing feeling. That everything you worked towards the last years was now gone. But there is still the glimmer of hope that it gets better, the little good things you chase and find power in. Like he said yorugaakeru | A new day will dawn. (and you will be here to see it.)

the other day, i sang this in karaoke with friends. instead of thinking about romantic relationships, i thought about my relationship with my grandfather, who i’m feel the closest to. recently he had been diagnosed with cancer, but he refused treatment since he felt that he’s already had a good life.

so singing this in karaoke, the lyrics really hit home, because i knew i really would miss him (he basically raised me to be the person i am today) especially at the part where it went “even if you’re not here, i can go on living, but it makes me sad.”

that line hit so hard, i ended up crying through the second half of the song. i’m sure it will hit hard again once the inevitable happens.
