When the psychopath narcissist finds himself in a bind with the police for repeat domestic violence felonies, stalking, and all sorts of abusive, criminal behavior, they will resort to playing the Empath card as a last resort. Absolutely true. Was with violent narc for 14 years. Couldn't get him gone even after the times he went to jail. I took the path of least resistance thinking it was the safest option, but it just gave him more time to work me over. The final separation from him was thru his last attack on me (the several times he was arrested for d.v was only a tiny portion of the actual violence that was never told to anyone). When I finally got free from him, I physically crashed, I couldn't understand why, cos initially I was utterly relieved and happy that he was gone, but you explained how high levels of stress affects dopamine levels etc and I was able to navigate through it.
