Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada won't ban foreign travellers arriving from countries grappling with COVID-19 outbreaks, adding that "knee-jerk reactions" won't help to stop the spread of the virus.

Canada's number is low due to lack of testing. All it takes is somebody positive taking public transit, so it's only a matter of time before we see local transmission. Our government dropped the ball not imposing mandatory 2 week isolation on all passengers coming from China/Italy/Japan/Iran. Our Prime Minister is more concerned being politically correct and not stopping the spread.

So we'd rather import the virus and then put the people who will catch it in isolation than to stop it from coming in the country to begin with? Is this guy serious?

Should have quarantine of arrivees from hotspots. He keeps side stepping this and talking about "closing borders" but we are talking about quarantining, from hotspots, not closing. WHO during their daily streamed conferences said it was China's strict quarantine measures that have started the actual decline and that we have a window to not have rampant community spread by having strong gov involved/supported isolation. Not advocating draconian measures like China, clearly, and if the gov would take a reasonable step to at least require quarantine fom hotspots, then maybe we could stop it from running wild thru community spread, while we still have a window of opportunity.

Vancouver announced a case tonight that is not through travel or contact with an infected person. Community spread has officially begun.

"There are only limited number flights to CANADA from outbreak countries, and Canada is so isolated from the rest of world" This is pure BS! Australia is isolated and blocked all flights from epicentre countries!
