Veterinary technician here and we go to the ER for all cat bites. They are no joke

I ended up in the ER Christmas morning several years ago after a cat got into my yard & my dogs were trying to eat him - I saved the cat but ended up with bites to the bone on both hands. I wrapped my hands up, opened presents with my kids & then went to the hospital.

When I came home the cat was sitting in my driveway so I sat down to check him over to make sure he wasn't hurt & to get the owner's number off his tag. He immediately climbed in my lap & started rubbing all over me as if thanking me & saying sorry at the same time, it was so sweet! I didn't see any injuries but I called the owner anyway just to let them know in case I missed something. They were totally freaked out, offering to pay my medical bills & everything. I refused though, I just wanted kitty to be okay!

He visited me pretty often after that, but he no longer climbed my fence into the backyard. 😂

My husband lost his finger and almost his thumb from a cat bite. He got osteomyelitis and almost died from sepsis.

While I like cats, I have a story from an old teacher I had from when she was a kid.

When she was little, she had a friend who tried to pet a feral cat. The cat scratched her friend’s face and it got infected. Since back then there wasn’t much you could treat in situations like this, the kid died. (Not sure if she actually did but yep)

Thx god injury treatments are much more accessible

In order that a cat bites like that especially when he knows him it’s definitely self Defense of the cat and the person did something which was very wrong towards the cat ! It’s just not ok to present this like a fault of the cat

I got bit by a mean orange tabby that was fighting with my cat this morning. Thankfully, unlike this dude, I went to urgent care immediately.

My cat bites me but never that bad. I doubt that cat reacted like that from just hanging out. I have a moody cat that does bite but nothing like that. I've never gone to the doctor for the bites but would if she actually punctured my skin. It's concerning because the cat has started to hunt little mice and Lord knows what she can get from rats and mice.

Our veterinarian got hadn infection after our cat brutally biten his hand. It was during the vet visit our cat was in distress from all the dogs. When aniamls are scared thats when their the most dangerous. Ive never seen our cat this angry every before he looked like a demon.

I too literally got bit badly by my 1yo cat, he was hangry and I took him from the kitchen counter. He bit so hard I have 2 deep gashes on my palm and multiple scratches, been 4 days it still hurts to move my hand... he has never bitten me so hard even during rough play. Idk why he suddenly bit this hard.
