Management isn't for everyone. You must like to manage and care about your employees. Most of managers don't study or have proper training for that, being promoted to a manager because they're a good employee.

I’ve found that most managers just want to be everybody’s friend. They don’t want to rock the boat among their employees. They smile, pass out treats, then leave.

Realizing that those issues exist is the first step in solving the issue or trying to solve it. Thank you for the video. That said...not sure how to solve it since this is a very tricky problem.

What about the very prevalent case of people being promoted to management positions for absolutely wrong reasons? These include fraternizing and brown-nosing the executive layer, lying and taking credit for other peoples work, hiding your failures and putting blame on other workers etc.

Almost all the bad managers I've witnessed in the 35 years of working as an adult, have shared these traits, yet I see them promoted over the good hard workers, who are committed and well liked by colleagues and clients.

You could argue a company thinks a good worker will not commit to a hard corporate decision and therefore would be unreliable as a manager when the corporation expects you to do unethical decisions. Whereas a lying, brown-nosing narcissist manager will not even flinch. However what baffles me, is how is it not seen how a bad manager is bad for business!?

There is so many bad managers because company’s don’t invest and teach them the right people skills required, companies teach them what the business requires but not how to deal with situations with peers! You can usually tell this type of boss when they don’t listen to staff or don’t even give new ideas and concepts a thought or reason why they don’t work

The people who get promoted tend to exhibit certain strengths (usually a combination of bend over backward for the company, and obsessive focus on "good numbers" at the risk of being able to build any real, healthy and functional professional relationships with actual human beings (AKA borderline sociopaths).

So good video!! Thank you!!! In my case, managers didn't care at all for the people. They treated everyone like "it's your responsibility, not mine, and I'll push you till thing gets done", and the one not aligned, they would not be considered for anything. So, they stick with the idiots that can only do kissing up.

Most Companies do not invest in creating a great culture, as a result there is no investment in training manager to "manage effectively"

I work in a small company that belongs to a big organization where good positions and supervising jobs are held by friends of friends etc. The management style is giving orders and saying to employees that this is “military” and that they give orders and employees execute. There’s no proper communication in general.

Hey Bill, I recently had a job offer rescinded while we the company was deciding, if they wanted me in one location or another. I've never had this occur. Can you give your thoughts on rescinded offers? The company gave no reasoning and the way they did it was by sending me a letter in the mail and then the HM ghosted me.

I think this doesn't give enough enough credance to the notion that some managers are promoted to "get them out of the way". When considering a promotion from a group of production level employees, the implicitly lowest cost choice is the employee which is the worst at the job. When none of the employees have proven themselves as managers, this can be a consideration which will skew selection towards managers which have a poor foundation of understanding their subordinates' roles. I have seen this in technical roles alot where someone will say they "aren't very technical" but, due to other credentials, will be given authority over technical projects.
