I actually love this fact. She’s pretty much single handedly responsible for nail culture in America

As a Vietnamese-american, I always wonder why 80% of my relatives are nail technicians or barbers.

I have heard that the way they got their own salons was amazing. They would pool their money and buy a store for one of their group. They would take turns raising money for each other until they each could own their own salon.

That's the most wholesome fun fact so far

My nail guy is Vietnamese. He's been my nail tech for over 10 years and when I asked how he got into nails he always said his grandmother. I can't wait to see him next time so we can talk about this ❤

My nail lady escaped from Vietnam when she was 11 years old. They escaped at night, 7 days and 7 nights on a small boat with 8 other children, only bringing the food that fit in her pocket and with only her father stearing the boat. Her aunt left the day before and was never seen before. They got to china then ended up in CA. She was taught by women who met Tippi.
She opened her own nail salons in California, and most recently a salon named after Tippi. There is a large photo of Tippi when you first walk in. S/o tippi and Kim!

As people often say: "Teach a Vietnamese woman how to do nails and they'll develop a new industry"

Reminds me of the saying that goes like, "If you educate a boy, you train a man. If you educate a girl, you train a whole village". So wholesome!!

My MIL is part of that legacy. She came over a little after 1975 and met my FIL a couple years later (who was an early refugee). She’s owned her own business for the last 20ish years. I love her so much.

Holy shit, 2 women are reasonable for a huge revolution and growth in an industry. They helped women in hopes of giving them better lives and then these kept that work and kindness going. It's just amazing.

Thank you Tippi Hedren, for helping them create generational wealth, and causing a way for ordinary women to have access to a luxury item!
