As a fellow 1600 modified Beetle owner i really appreciate the work that has gone into this machine. I doubt my bug tops 80BHP. 193 BHP with stock stroke and heads/valves is incredible!

If those exact cars were offered new on the market again, I would get one . Easy to maintain, good enough for most tasks. My first car was a ‘68 Ghia I had a 73 beetle and a hatch back also. Loved all of them

God bless the Beetle. May they survive forever, if for no other reason than to teach new drivers how to drive a stick-shift.

Worked on bunches of these from about 1987 to 2015.
Must be a great magician there.
Only thing that could be stock in that engine would be the size of the valves.
It may be 1600 but it is all aftermarket, from the case to the air going thru it.

What a gorgeous bug, loads of respect- that bloke knows how to make VW’s sing. I’d like to have known the rpm he achieves and the spec of the box. 👌🤙

how the heck did an aircooled 1584cc get 193hp without turbo or supercharging??

Really impressive. I used to run a N/A 1584cc back in the early 90s, best time for quarter mile was 13.018 @ 100mph. I ran twin 48 DRLAs with an FK87 cam. The 193 bhp, is that measured at the flywheel?

If only I could make half that hp in my 67! I would love to have engine details beside stock bore/stroke and stock valve size. I guess most of the hp is coming from porting and polishing those heads.
