My first car was a 65' bug in this same color except I had a factory sunroof. I basically did the same thing in the mid 80s ... dropped it, new engine, one piece windows and it was a great car to have in high school. I miss that car so much, this little video brought back lots of memories!

My first car was a 61 or 62 ragtop. Had a lot of dents, and the engine was in the back seat. did all the work myself at age 14.4 to drive on my 16th birthday. It was painted gold, and I wore the JC Whitttney catalog out, as I earned money to buy stuff. Looked like a show car, and had many offers but would not sell it. Finally traded it for a MG then had to sell it for more reliable transportation of a 68 camaro. Now I own 18 VW's, and stopped buying them so I can get all of them restored or resto-mods. m Squarebacks, Karmann Ghias, and bugs. Have not found a solid enough bus yet. Have to love these cars. Nothing like them.

Beautiful Volkswagen, and I love the way you protected its original look!

My first car was a 1965 Bug and I loved that car. I put a 300cfm Holley carb and a header on it. Wow, it was great. It punched way above its weight. Talk about reliable and fun. By the way, a stock 1965 Bug came with a 1200cc engine, with the 120cfm-one-barrel Solex carb would make 40 horsepower. That's a fact. Not a 1600cc engine, because that engine didn't happen until the early 1970s. Just so you guys know.

I still miss my first car, a '65 type 1, 36 years after it was stolen. Less than 10 hours after I spent the entire day installing $1, 500 worth of new parts (at 1984 prices), the car was gone. Worst gut punch of my life at that point.

Love VWs. Every time we pass one it’s “wait for it wait for it” from whoever saw it first then as we all can see it “slap buggy no slap back” unless it’s the new convertibles then if you don’t double slap they can slap back. 😂

If they spent an hour explaining the details, this would actually be a worthwhile program! Jeesh!!

Think we all want to fix up a bug and it’s so cheap to do. Sometimes we just don’t want to admit. Great looking car and I bet it’s a blast to drive

I know where a couple old buses are. Cruddy paint problem some rust and no interior but they look so cool I would love to build one

Man, I'd love to get a Beetle again. My first car was a '61 with a full canvas sunroof, followed by a '67. Nice job on your '65!

Check out the early dual-carb type 3's. They're much better than the type1 bug motor, and the dual carbs are great.

Bugs that old had the most accurate gas gage ever. If ever in doubt that you had gas, just wiggle in your seat and if you see the needle move, you were good to go.
