How To FEEL Your Back Muscles While Rowing (IMPORTANT!)

When you are doing a back exercise, more specifically a rowing exercise, you need to make sure that you are actually using your back muscles. In this video, we are going to show you how to feel your back muscles while rowing.

The reason why people don’t feel their back muscles while rowing is they are using their biceps and not their back. When rowing you might be pulling the weight back too far.

When you grab the weight, think of your hand as a hook. You want to have the mental cue of pulling with your elbow. Try and get your arm in line with your back, any further is all bicep activation. Then lower the weight all the way down and let it stretch. Repeat this motion to row correctly.

So I am doing standing rows with my resistance bands. Have been for a long time. I always wondered why I felt it so much more in my biceps then my back. So I watched this video and tried it out with the same technique you suggested. It makes a huge difference! I feel very little in my biceps now but my back started feeling it. Can't wait to see how this improves me. Thank you

Warming up is crucial for back exercises, if you go in cold you won't feel shit

No wonder I never felt my back doing inverted rows, I never streghtened my lats so I can’t do pull-ups or chin-ups

Great info but to fully contract the back, lat, don't you need to get the elbow behind your back? Appreciate the feedback!

Great advice. I always thought my biceps were just to weak for me to be doing these exercises. This advice is great for the tow machines as well

I feel dumbbell rows just fine. It's barbell rows that I don't really feel. And I don't care if I do it traditional or pendlay style. I still do them, but I much prefer dumbbell, cable, and Hammer Strength rows.
