Dr. Moore Explains Ankle Ligament Repair and Reinforcement Using the 'Arthrex' Internal Brace

In this video, Dr Moore explains how the Arthrex Internal Brace is designed to reinforce the anterior talofibular ligament after the 'Modified Brostrom' procedure.

Most foot and ankle specialists will perform a ligament repair surgery like the 'Modified Brostrom' if the patient has had frequent ankle sprains, ankle instability or the quintessential 'weak ankle' or ankle 'giving out'. Tests include the initial x-rays, MRI, and 'anterior drawer sign' at the clinical evaluation pre operatively.

The high points of this surgical equipment are the bone anchors that are offered as an absorbable material and insert 'peek' material. The drills are cannulated for ease of use and maintaining position of the portals and hand held taps and drivers are as easy to use as they are intelligently designed for each part of the procedure. Finally, the brace material itself is made of fiber wire at 5 times the standard strength.

I just had mine 3 months ago(+screw and 5 rods). I'm almost full back to my normal activities (walking, swimming, cycling). I suggest anyone who is is doubt to do this and find a good surgeon(mine was specialised in sport medicine). God bless you all!

I torn a ligament in my right ankle just after I fell and sprained it a little bit over 5 years ago. I never had surgery on it. It took a while to get back to normal in walking. I remembered it was swollen and had bruises around the foot, 3 of the toes, the heel, and even the ankle. It was the worst sprained ankle that I ever had. I also had a broken ankle on my left just a little bit over 10 years ago. That one that I had reconstruction surgery on. It seems that I’m pretty tough when I got older. The pain from a broken ankle is much worst than a bad sprained ankle. I had so many sprained ankles it to a day or 2 to get back to normal. When I torn that ligament it took a little bit longer than my broken ankle was. When I was little that I did cried a little bit because of the swelling from the sprained.
