I agree so much on this Josh! That's why I'm going to start to write a newsletter dedicated to italian programmers (fully dedicated to italians looking to improve their skills with bi-weekly bits of programming advice). Mentoring at my company made me realize how important it is for people to have a good example to follow. I had mine too! It's a cycle. People left alone will inevitably develop bad habits and propagate them even further.

I gotta pause right at the start and say: mom is the most consistent and perserverant person I've ever met. It's awe-inspiring really. She got up so many times and accomplished so much out of sheer consistency it's unbelievable.
Consistency is king.

Thanks Josh! Your position was very convincing to me and dispelled my fears about content production. Already making a content plan! 👍

100% agree. I started making videos on Youtube back in December 2022 and I've grown such an awesome community of developers, made some friends, and I've learnt so much from it!

💯, Josh! This was the whole reason I started my channel. I don’t want to become famous or make a ton of money. I just want to code and learn. And the best way to figure out what I do and don’t know is to try to teach it publicly. I have messed up so many times publicly and it has really helped me get better.

That reminds me starting a Twitch channel during the COVID (I didn't continue tho). I remember having only few people watching me but being watched and having to explain myself was eyes opening to me... I realized that I was looking down on many concepts. And having people interacting, giving me ideas or sharing their experience was huge learnings. I've never been more productive than this time, in addition to keep a somehow social existence during lockdown.

Thanks Josh.

Since 2019, when I began studying Computer Science, I've had the idea of starting a YouTube channel to maintain discipline in my learning journey and teach others what I've learned. However, I've been constantly waiting to become proficient in CS before initiating the content creation process, which has led to me never actually starting the channel.

This week, I was considering starting a YouTube channel to improve my skills by teaching back what I've learned, and this video came just in time to validate this idea.

One of the most effective ways to improve expertise is through the technique of teaching back.
Stop waiting to become good at something; just start doing it. The path to mastery begins with taking that first step.

Totally agree! I have also learned things I wouldn't otherwise have learned if I didn't start my youtube channel.

I realized that you learn a ton by preparing content for a video. It's because I also have to teach what I learn so I need to understand what I'm doing more profoundly.

This is so true, getting yourself out there and interacting with people who do what you do can help a lot. I was wondering if you could consider making a video on internationalization (i18n) for next13 and nextuath for example as its troublesome to combine both. Would be interesting to see your take on it for sure.

I absolutely agree that people should produce content. It improved my skills so much (and so quickly as well) and it also makes you quite a lot more hireable :)
