Time is key. Wait at least a month and don't talk to them at all. If you make any contact within that month you have no hope. Waiting is the only way, and it's also the hardest way. It will hurt but I am doing it because I know it's the only thing I can do.

HEY BRAD! Thanks for your teachings.
I and my ex dated for 5yrs. It was lovely regardless of the fights and arguments. March 1st, he said he wants to get really serious with me, we were both happy and by this time we’ve stayed apart in different cities for 2 months. March 4th, we had a little misunderstanding which was over nothing really. Next day being March 5th, he said he wants to break up. Lol, how? We were just talking about getting serious and you want to leave in the space of 4 days.

He said I wasn’t working on myself to be a better person. That I’m lazy and I procrastinate a lot. I agree that I was reluctant in achieving my goals which he talked about for long but early this year, I challenged myself and started taking a web development course. He was happy with me but said it wasn’t enough as I have to find something doing so that I can earn while learning the web development course. I started learning graphic design but I wasn’t showing much interest in it because web development is something I really really want and also I am an engineering student in her final year. The pressure was much. He said since I’m not earning, I’m a burden to him and all that.

He went further to say I’m no longer attractive to him because he loves girls on skimpy dresses, make up, artificial nails and all that. I wasn’t comfortable with them but I had to give in like 40% and 60% was for what I was comfortable with.

I begged, cried and pleaded with him. Was showing him my progress in graphic design and web development. I promised to start wearing the things he loves even if it’s 100%. I begged him because he was my first love and we lasted for 5 YEARS. I begged him like crazy. He agreed after 3wks to work things out. I was making a lot of progress with the courses I was taking. I started making up and sending him pictures of me on it and he was happy that I was doing the things he loves. After a week, he said he wasn’t interested that even if I do all he wants, that we can never get back together. He said he wants to be free to do the things he wants without feeling any guilt that he is in a relationship. I begged again but I decided to let him go.

Been 10 days of NC but it looks like he’s moved on and not missing the relationship. I need your help.

Hey Brad? Me and my ex are spending time together one day a week and we have the greatest time ever. But I’m so confused. He doesn’t want to be in a relationship, he says he loves me but he doesn’t have those strong feelings for me. Question: what should I do in this case? I really love him.

This is about a girl who I had ended the relationship with by moving to Mexico. I originally felt I needed to leave the city I was in, Portland, and get my head right (I was letting external issues affect my inner peace). I was happy in our relationship, so that wasn't the issue. It was devastating for her of course, and looking back on it I do wish I did things differently and have learned a lot- she deserved to have me be there for her instead of leaving. I still loved her dearly and definitely regret leaving the way I did.

She cut off all contact a month after I moved, previously she had been indicating how she missed me etc.

So a month later, I ended up flying back to Portland, and showed up at her house. We talked for 20 min before work, and then made plans for me to pick her up for dinner the next night.

We met for dinner, and then had wine and talked at my airbnb and then car until 3 AM when I dropped her off.

At first, I focused on making her laugh and lightly reminding of good times in the past. Inevitably, the conversation turned more serious, and we opened up about everything.

She is still hurt, and forced herself to move on over these past two months. Me coming back brought back all the emotions, and it's a lot for her to process and overwhelms her. She still loves and cares about me, but at that moment she did not know if she could see me again yet, as it's hard on her. She said deep down she wants to be with me, but she doesn't know how long it will take for her to be comfortable opening up to me. She still thinks I left bc of her and if she was good enough/right for me I wouldn't have left and she could have gotten me to stay. Hard for her to trust that I won't do it again either. She basically said that once she heals we could try to work it out as she never wanted to be apart in the first place.

By the end of the conversation, we were holding each other and she was crying in my arms. I left it by saying "when you miss me, you know how to reach me" and that I'll be in town a few days but can extend if needed. We both said love you as she got out of the car.

So that's where I am now, she still hasn't unblocked me (to my knowledge) or contacted me (that was Thursday night and it is now Sunday). I'm holding tight and at this point waiting for her to reach out to me, rather than try to force further. I do wish I had kept things a bit more fun and light on the date, but I also felt I needed to be upfront about everything and mistakes I made/why I'm back.

Would love to hear your thoughts, but that's my update for now. I ha
ve a tough decision to make in terms of staying an extra week to give her more time to contact me, and my future plans. I worry if I stay in Mexico then there will be no hope for us.

Brad I don’t know what to do… It’s been a few weeks and we are on speaking terms but it’s because he kept contacting me when I was doing NC and I couldn’t help but give in and talk to him. Now he is seeing someone as a casual thing but is still talking to me and it hurts so much which he knows because I’ve gotten so upset about it and he tells me it’s none of my business yet still continues to call me as though nothing has occurred.
