It’s traditional that when their loved ones pass away .. they take a day to give to others in their name … the beauty and hospitality of the Iraqi ppl is legendary

First guy is not dishonest, just been through some shit. Iraq has some very dangerous people, he’s not wrong about that.

Like most countries that has been through a lot though, the average person is very sweet and caring.

This is 100% true. I just visited Baghdad last year, and everything this guy is saying is spot on accurate. Everyone there..literally everyone..was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the level of hospitality was just unreal. There were many times where we woukd try to pay for our meals at restaurants, and were told it was on the house. Or we tried to buy things at different shops in the bazaar, and they would not accept our money and insisted that we take the item we wanted as a gift. Last time i had been to Baghdad, things were alot different. i was 18, and in the Army, and i had just invaded the country a few weeks earlier. My buddies who went with me were also Iraq War veterans. So many people tried to talk us out of going, and tried warning us about unsafe and dangerous it was, especially for Americans. And truth be told, we were a little bit uneasy at first, but all that changed almost immediately. We were absolutely blown away at how friendly everyone was and how well we were treated. We ended up having dinner one night with a group of Iraqi police officers that we had met at the airport when we first arrived. A few of whom had been contractors for the US military when we controlled the country, and some of whom had even been soldiers under Sadam's regime. We had a great time together hanging out, and it was an awesome experience. We had alot laughs, and shared alot of wild and funny stories, as soldiers do. And of course we talked alot about the war. Aside from being alot of fun, it was also a very cathartic experience for most of us there, and there was definitely a bit of healing that took place during that dinner. The trip to Baghdad last year was probably my most favorite vacation ever, and id definitely go there again.

I met this guy from iraq while i was fishing on a pier in Florida and he taught me about iraq and i taught him about Florida and he caught his first Florida fish. It was one of the most wholesome experiences I've ever had with a stranger.

The “dishonest” dude was actually just trying to look out for you. Yes there are dangerous people and also nice people. He wanted to keep you safe by using a hyperbole.

I actually remember we had a guy in school from Iraq, nicest guy ever but he got bullied a lot. He’s doing good now though

My friend is from Iraq and this all matches what he told me. He told me it's like people are determined to show tourists who actually go to Iraq that they aren't bad people. They won't let you pay for anything he said. They'll take care of you and their hospitality is unmatched. So I trust this.

I used to have an Iraqi room mate back when I used to live in Lisbon and he is literally one of the nicest and most genuine people I've ever met. Eventually I moved out of Lisbon and lost contact, but I always think of him and all the stories he used to tell me about his country and culture. Wish I could bump into him again in the future

The man who told you not to talk to Iraqis, he’s probably a CIA agent
