Singer John Mayer has a song called “Daughters” that discusses the importance of fathers being there for their daughters. Mayer wanted to emphasize the message that daughters have to be nurtured well in their childhoods, because those actions will affect the relationships they have when they become adults. But, not every girl gets the treatment they hope for. Some of them grew up with hardships and only understood the unstable, fragile love they received from the person they call their dad. Here are 6 types of unhealthy father-daughter relationships.

My dad provides me with food to eat and a roof over my head but, he doesn’t show me any affection, never praises me or anything like that. I think I can relate to the lost father.

Tbh, i have many sad memories with my father, one of the memories that always increase my sense of hatred towards him, like the time when he beat me up in front of my cousins, uncles, friends and random people at a crowded mall. I was so embarrassed that when he beat me up, i literally smiled, laughed and pretended I was okay even tho I was basically gonna have a mental break down.

I'm in my twenties still suffering from this problem. I feel like I'm not strong enough to get over it. I can't even imagine not having abandonment issues and fear of intimacy.

I'm going to be a dad soon and I'm watching every type of videos concerning fathers to make sure I don't become like mine. I want to be the dad I wanted as a kid and it's ashame that many are so horrible.

My dad is an extremely stubborn person. He never listens to anything I have to say if we’re arguing cause in the end, he’s always right.I never get a say in anything at all.He also laughed when I told him the possibility of me having an anxiety disorder. His respond was simple”you’re being ridiculous.you’re just fine.there’s nothing wrong with you.”Somehow that didn’t bring me comfort at all and just made me feel even worse.I’m going through anxiety and he doesn’t even know.Just because no one knows us better than our parents, it doesn’t mean they know what runs through our minds and the things we go through

My dad is the type of dad that is like a narcissist and he is always arguing with everyone thinking he's right about everything. He can't control his anger when he's drunk, he is always having to depend on everyone else for everything. He can't keep a healthy relationship with literally anyone. But everyone forgives him and makes them feel bad because "he's going through a lot", when hes the one making people's life harder.

You forgot the narsasistic dad, the one who blames everyone but them for something they did and when they see their daughter he associates them with a person who confronted them.

I never once noticed my relationship with my dad was considered unhealthy. My relationship with my dad is the first one, I've always thought that it's my fault for being confused about myself and not knowing what I'm bad at or good at, and whenever I accomplished something good I always thought that it wasn't good enough because my dad doesn't look or sound happy with my accomplishment.

The lost father. He is there but he is like a stranger to me. We barely talk and he knows nothing about me. He may be a good person but he isn’t a good parent :/

My dad BARELY had times for us. He hurts my mom mentally, he hurts me mentally. He never cared about my achievements. He always bangs the door when he is angry which caused me trauma later on. Everytime he accidentally bangs or purposely bangs the door, I would get frightened and get severe anxiety and overthink about it for almost 3 days. I was depressed and had a hard time to finish my meals, My mom was worried and tried to help, while my dad thought I was dramatic and was being dumb and stupid just like my sister. I never liked my father but my mom always gives reason swhy I should love him but it's really hard because he says he loves me but has never shown it. He used to kiss me and my mom before he went somewhere but now he just goes out without saying a thing and when we give him a phone call to ask where he is, he doesn't respond and when he gets home, all he does and yell at us for disturbing him. He may have got me some expensive gifts but that will never help how much hate I have for my dad.
