Calvinism vs. Arminianism | Did Jesus Die for Everybody?
Показать описание
I contrast the third of the five points of Calvinism and Arminianism. Calvinism is a theological system associated with the reformer John Calvin who emphasized God's sovereignty. Calvinism is often summarized with five points: total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints. Arminianism is a school of theology based on the teachings of Dutch theologian, Jacob Arminius. Arminianism offers their own five points: free will, conditional election, universal atonement, resistible grace, and falling from grace. This debate will contrast limited vs. unlimited atonement. Calvinism argues that Jesus' death on the cross paid for the sins for only those whom God has predetermined to save, namely the elect. They argue that since only the elect of God will be saved, Jesus must have died only for them. Arminianism argues that Jesus died for everyone and that those who respond by faith will experience the benefits of his death, namely atonement.
