Do you have work life balance to maintain space (and sanity)?

Step 1) quit your job
Step 2) never apply to another

If your boss doesn’t care, you will never have work / life boundaries.

Boundaries I hope to set when I start working include not taking work home and never staying more than an hour overtime unless I’m getting paid.

We would rather have people who do a moderate amount of work and is a happy and joyful person, than a person who does it all (or tries to) and is poky, irritated, and grumpy

Jennifer, your channel is amazing and you deserve many more views. I'm a social work manager who is looking to build her own not for profit and your videos always give me new ideas and remind me what's important. Thanks!

I’m going into my first year of teaching. I don’t plan on responding to emails past 6pm. I plan on leaving school by 4pm daily, unless there’s an activity

Consistent balance is always difficult and will always be more one-sided at times because there is the external environment and things that happen beyond your control so Yes boundaries are crucial.

You touched on the idea that stop by and end by times are not impervious. I agree, and I'm not sure that I support the idea of stop by and end by times. I actually do like the "work life integration" idea, but it's important to note that it applies in all directions. I'll do work anytime, but I'll also take care of family matters anytime. If my kid has a doctors appointment at 3pm on a Tuesday, I just take her. I don't ask my boss. If an important project at work needs my attention at 7pm on a Saturday, I just do it. I don't ask my wife.

I do think the idea of enumerating 4 buckets is good, because otherwise important things could easily fall through the cracks. You advice of concentrate, procrastinate, delegate, and eliminate is very good too.

There’s something about someone claiming to have it all together that just seems so fraudulent to me.

The real and best way to improve your work condition is to form work unions: more nogotiation power, an your colleagues turn from competence to allies.
This is FACTS.

Here I am at the end of another year saying my new year resolution is to have a life. Knowing that 1/3 the bosses will tell me I don't think so".

Just walked out of an interview that advertised a 4 day work week, but really expected 6 or 7.

The 4 day work week is coming in 2024. And yes 32 hours per week.

Like your channel, but please reduce the amount of video cuts in the middle of a sentence, it's really distracting. One option could be using a presentation with your voice on the background.

I keep struggling with self-interested employers who don't care about my work-life boundaries.

I'm just sick of fighting constraining and co-dependent social situations in order to secure my own schedule.

I need the money while I am working on my career but I keep getting caught into the temporary work-cycle which always messes with the schedule I want.

Employers never seem to 'respect' personal time, unless you have some competing obligation, ie. another job or school work.

But God forbid if you want to take the bull by the horns and start your own personal business or schedule. Then you are just being selfish (I say this all facetiously, yet with honesty and seriousness as well, ).

Great advice and points on all the stuff that is not that important anyway. Burnout does happen and your suggestion on getting clear on terms and boundaries are required. That’s right #jenniferbrick what do we really want?
