Totally makes sense. I used to spend $600+ a month on food because I budgeted that much. Things changed and suddenly my grocery budget got slashed in half and I panicked. I prayed, found your channel and rather than pulling $100 out and running to the store to spend it all I just grabbed what I needed and only spent $27. This works!

I feel that every time you leave the house it costs money, stay home more and apply those savings to debts

I enjoy the long videos. Please don't change. I listen while doing other things. They seem like a genuine family. Love the interaction.

When I started budgeting, writing it down, seeing what needs done it has saved my LIFE!!! I have dug my family out of a financial hole, which has enabled us to have ZERO credit cards, have 2 cars & bought a home. Budgeting & a strong mind is what is needed for many people (like myself) to have the things they need. Budgeting works for a whole lot of people for sure.

I wish I could have seen this live! We are a military family, and I also stay home with our 3 kids. We are completely debt free, and on track to buy a house with cash in the next 6 years, even while renting. We are able to live off of 50% of my husbands income. We do keep a cash envelope budget, but it is agreed every envelope EXCEPT personal cash is designated for essentials only. It's not the budget that makes it work, it's really making good choices and sacrifices. Our main reason for using a cash budget is to keep the peace between the two of us when it comes to finances lol. (Personal $$ helps alot)

Quite possibly your best video ever. We have "The Giant Pile of Money" concept at our house. It's basically what you're saying, take the big view of your money situation and cut back! Cut cut cut and try to get the biggest pile of money savings from ALL areas where we spend money! We bought a condo in not the greatest area, but our mortgage is $465 and in a REALLY good school zone. We don't have to pay for private school AND our mortgage is super manageable. We don't have car payments, we shop at thrift stores - when we NEED something and my husband is a waiter (he makes $40k) and we're paying cash for me to go back to school (shocker, I'm going to be an accountant, ha!). We sacrifice in ALL areas to squeeze every last dime from the system. It was really refreshing to hear you guys say exactly what I've been thinking all these years, STOP FILLING UP THE BUDGET. Just because you CAN spend $100 extra on groceries this month doesn't mean you SHOULD. Eat from the pantry people! Lovelovelovelove this video, THANK YOU!!

We are completely debt free, and we still continue to live well beneath our means. We don't feel deprived at all.

I definitely have a money problem, but I’m not mad at you! I’m grateful to hear your encouragement AND your admonishment. It is freeing to not focus on a budget. I have done a much better job paying my bills on time since I stopped budgeting and just focused on essentials. My current challenge is to resist the temptation to spend money on things I don’t need, like eating out all the time.

Did this exercise with my sister, we went into Walmart and put everything in the cart that we wanted and then we got a third cart and in that cart we put only what we needed. Instead of the usual $300 each that we would spend we walked out having spent under $40. Needs vs Wants. and if someone asks you to do something you don't want to just say "thank you for thinking of me - but NO" that's it, no explanation required. Do not be bullied. It is now their issue, let it go.

I love this! We are a one income family with 4 kids. I have tried budgets and they always fail. I listen to people preach budgets and how ITS THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF and always thought “ what are we doing wrong? Are we hopeless”? But then I ditched the budget and took control of our spending and wouldn’t you know, extra money every week to pay off debt. It’s all about control

I do both at the same time. For example food. My comfortable amount is $200. Each week my grocery store has daily deals. Wednesday fruit, Thursday meat, Friday vegetables. I spend $10 a week on getting these items. Then I make a meal plan based on them. If there are basics I need to complete these meals I buy these on Saturday. Sunday I prep and freeze everything. I make my own tortillas. Because that’s just corn flour which if you have the flour can also be used to make tamales, quesadillas, you get more out of a bag of corn flour then just the package of corn tortillas. Same with flour. I can buy ready made desserts. Or make them using the bag of flour and always have a treat on hand. You never know when a staple needs to be replenished so that’s where the $200 comes in. If I need to replenish seasonings a month the money is there, if I need to buy eggs it’s there. It’s not the spend this all this month amount. It’s the if it’s needed it’s available for use amount.
*disclaimer my grocery store is within walking distance so getting a bag of groceries a day works.

If you make 1million dollars and spend 2million dollars you are broke. If you make thirty thousand dollars and you spend twenty thousand dollars you are rich .Its all about what you make and what you send, not how many zeros are after the dollars.

This show is awesome! Thanks for doing this. At the end when you mentioned family members demanding other family members spend money, it really resonated with me. Years ago my siblings and I along with our spouses and kids planned a surprise get together for our Dad to celebrate his retirement. My hubby and I had just enough money to get us to and from my parents house six hours away. My sister wanted all of us to go out to eat one night. My hubby and I knew there was no way we could afford it so we said for everyone to go and have fun, we will stay and eat leftovers and then we can all play games when they get home. My sister was LIVID, called my husband a dictator, and implied that he's mean and controlling. Unfortunatley, my relationship with her is pretty much dead, 15 years later...all because we couldn't afford to eat out. So, so sad....isn't it? Thank you for the encouragement to stick to our guns, to keep living a frugal, debt free life of freedom and peace!! God bless!

It doesn't matter if you write it down or not, every one has an budget. There are good ones and bad ones. It is about the habits. It is the same as an diet, either you have good eating habits or bad.

I get what your saying but I love budgeting and the envelope system. I do budget a little extra for things like sale items and pop up expenses. I used to just freely spend on things and budgeting has really helped me focus on what I am spending on things/counting my pennies. I think budgets/the envelope system can really work depending how you use it

I think it’s great that there are so many different methods families use like the envelope system to get out of debt. We find that too complicated and a distraction from the main issue which is unnecessary spending. We budget to track everything but that is just how we monitor everything. The key is simply mindful spending!
