“I cured my addiction by just stopping”. That’s not how addiction works.
You’ve obviously never been actually actually addicted to or dependent on sugar.

i haven’t cut out sugar, but i have decreased the amount of “unhealthy” sugars i eat. i keep fruit i actually like around, so i can eat it easily. if i’m going to have a sugary treat/dessert, i add something to it to make it healthier and more filling like yogurt, fruit, nuts, etc. or i have a smaller portion and then some type of protein like a hard boiled egg, cottage cheese, yogurt, slice of roasted chicken, etc afterwards. having the protein immediately afterwards helps lessen my craving for more of the dessert.

edit: for me personally when i have protein, fruit, a “regular meal, ” etc BEFORE my dessert, it doesn’t stop or lessen the craving for dessert at all, and i still want to eat a larger portion of the dessert. whereas eating a protein directly AFTER the smaller portion of dessert, helps lessen the craving for more. what works for one person might not work for others, so do whatever works best for you, your cravings, and your lifestyle.

Eating butter and animal fat/protein took away every craving I’ve had, and I was a lifelong sugar addict.

I gave up sugar for a year.. but life is too short to completely give up something you like.

I’m on day 4 with no sugar in my diet and my stomach is already so much less bloated.

I learned this trick over 25 years ago. The brain location for sugar cravings is also the same location for spicy foods. If craving sweets I would eat something spicy instead and bam the craving was GONE! (Hot Pickled jalapenos was my go to)

I'M 13 and for my New Year's resolution, I decided to only eat sweets on the weekends or only on Saturday, cause I'm really addicted to them. I'll use this comment to document all this.
Immediately the cravings were absolute HELL. Like I was sitting and I wanted to eat sugar so bad I wanted to cry. It got easier eventually, but I still often feel like something's missing, a sort of emptyness.
One thing that's annoying about this is the social aspect. All my friends are also sugar addicts so I feel weird and awkward to decline a treat. I'm starting to realise how sugar is absolutely everywhere, and you really need to TRY to avoid it. This is actually the hardest part in my opinion. You feel weird seeing everyone else eat what you're actively avoiding.

Thank you for this. My family and friends still think that I need a “moderate amount” of sugar intake. This view must to be overturned.

100% truth to this 🎉 i have been stressed, overwhelmed and not being able to get healthy foods because of a move. Sugar has been just awful..and carbs 😢. Protein was my heaven sent

People please know there is a difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian. This is so unrealistic and don’t get me started on that beef jerky. People often see these and go in with the goal of removing something entirely from their diet and end up creating a whole new set of problems by avoiding entire food groups. Whole fruits in moderation are an excellent source of fiber and other key vitamins and minerals in a diet. Please take the time to educate yourselves and don’t listen to a 60 second clip to change your entire diet.

Magnesium deficiency can also exacerbate sugar cravings.
Gmo sugars, fructose syrup ect can stop you absorbing vit d and Magnesium

And if you run into insufferable craving, squeeze two lemons into a glass of water, add two tablespoons of bio apple cider vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt. Mix until salt is dissolved. Drink in small sips for 10-15 min. No hunger no sugar craving. Do not overdo. You may want to add 1/3 teaspoon of potassium citrate to it if you drink it more than once a day. Don't drink more than three a day.

What she said is true. You really have to learn will power and self discipline and cut sugar out entirely. After two weeks of cutting it out (even hidden sugars), I completely stop craving it. It's when I give in a little and think, "Oh, one chocolate chip cookie won't hurt", that I suddenly start craving it again.

I buy bags of mandarin oranges. I'll have a couple of them in the evening if I'm craving a snack. A teaspoon of butter too is quite satisfying.
