Elizabeth I lived a life of tremendous ups and downs. In her 69 years, she was at one point a bastard Princess, a prisoner, and a glorious monarch - ruling as a woman in her own right. Elizabeth was one of the most astute rulers England ever had. So what did she really look like? In today’s video, we’ll explore her life, history, and true appearance. We’ll discuss which portraits of her may be the most accurate, her resemblance to her mother Anne Boleyn, and of course reveal some re-creations.

The modern recreations of the portraits make it clear that Cate Blanchett looks most like the queen. Superb casting, not to mention the most nuanced portrayal.

The fact that she never married shows precisely the impact her father's endless marriages and her mother's execution had on her. What she thought of men and marriage.

I honestly cannot fathom how clever and brilliant she was, to know that in that time, with a mother murdered by your dad, surrounded by men manipulating and plotting to marry and/or murder you, knowing all those perils... Yet she remained calm, was irreligious, sought reform and finally, marketed herself as a lifelong virgin (what a stroke of genius!). England was blessed with her reign. I'm taking notes.

knowing who her father was and all what she had to go through it is a miracle that she lived to be queen .

It’s nice to know that Queen Elizabeth I was truly her mother’s daughter. If only she had her mother’s company and guidance.

I would love to see you do Henry VIII - both from when he was young and handsome and then the larger version everyone remembers from his later life. These videos are so awesome! I could literally watch them all day!

The modern one really touched me. I can't explain it, but I feel like that's her face, that's the true Elizabeth. I saw it and I stopped breathing, then smiled. Great work. Please never stop making these <3

Queen Elizabeth the 1st was definitely one of the strongest and smartest female rulers in history she was highly intelligent and witty. This is a great representation of her. 👍

Queen Elizabeth I is known to be the best queen and rightfully so. I also think she was the only queen who didn’t have a husband during her reign. She was the only ruler which is just amazing. Your interpretations of the historical figures never disappoint. They’re just amazing. I love them.

Like other viewers, the modern rendition of Elizabeth in her middle years resonates with me the most, especially when she smiles. You captured her cleverness in a wonderful way.

An incredible woman! As a woman of "a certain age" myself the modernization of her more mature self is fantastic. She looks so beautiful in both but I love the more mature one.

In a handful of ways, Elizabeth I was better than her father, Henry VIII. Though she did see some difficulties in her reign as queen, including the challenge of being a prisoner of her own sister, the execution of Mary Queen of Scots, the conflict of the Spanish Armada, etc... I personally believe that she had succeeded as a leader where her father, Henry VIII had failed.

Isn't it amazing how a smile can change so much. She looked like somebody you would like to know.

It’s so interesting that Queen Elizabeth the 1st became Queen at 25. Queen Elizabeth the 2nd also became Queen at 25 too.

Not a beauty? She is absolutely stunning in her own way. A powerful ruler who knew how to take care of her throne all by herself and never needed a master.

One of the best modern interpretation of how she would have looked like today. I image her a president, a prime minister, a woman of actual modern stately power. Amazing. Thank you.
