Great method, but only works if it is supported by your PC manufacturer. If it doesn’t, the option will be replaced with an option that tells you to reinstall Windows completely, which requires installation media.

Thank you so much for this video. It is August 2022, and I still had my old computer with Windows 7. My daughter gave me a brand new Dell computer as a retirement gift, and I wanted to get rid of my old one. I backed up my files, pictures, etc, to my Dell, and after researching, I discovered that it wasn’t enough to just delete, because your personal information can still be stored in the background of your hard drive.

With that being said, I’ve been trying to find a video to assist me with preparing my old computer for donation or to give it to someone. But, all the other videos were so complicated and long, and they were for Windows 10. I came across your video and it was the best, absolutely amazing, very simple, and it worked. I love it.

Thanks again for posting this. Even though you put it out some years ago, it still works.

This is making me crazy!  Mine has 'use an image' or 'reinstall windows (using a disc).  mIne came preloaded and I don't have a disc.

On my laptop Compaq 6510b Windows 7 it works a bit differently...but I figured it out.
- As in the video, power down, then power up pressing F11.
- When you get to the first screen with choices, you need to be very quick and tap the down arrow so you are not choosing Windows 7 (which will just restart Windows again) but System Restore.
- Press F8 (as indicated) to shows you more options, but none of them is "Factory Reset" or anything similar. Nevertheless...
- Choose "Safe mode with Command Prompt". This brings up a System Restore warning about data erasure (yay! I expected a command prompt and more research to finding the right command, but sometimes things go happier.)
- Read everything carefully.
- Make sure your laptop is plugged in - you really don't want to run out of battery in the middle of this.
- Choose the green checkmark to factory restore. Wait for a long time.
- After I got back, my computer was off and black.
- Press the Power button and Setup runs, eventually asking you to create an account. SUCCESS!

Mine is different and requires the installation disc instead of just a factory reset. Is there anyway to reset it without the disc?

Best I've seen. Uncluttered and concise, including most essentials.
