I add a couple of extra steps for mine. Once the spam is done browning on both sides, add into the pan sauce made from equal parts soy sauce, mirin, and sugar, that has been heated and stirred until the sugar is dissolved. Make sure when you add it to the pan with the spam, the pan is really hot, because you want to reduce the sauce just slightly so that it becomes a little syrupy. flip the spam slices over to get good and coated, and then when putting them onto the rice ball, add furikake underneath, between them.

Great vid..Thanks for making it..love all your vids..
Everyone loves musubi In Hawaii..they go quick at convenient stores think they sell it for like almost 2 dollars for one....It's one of those things at home we make a dozen or 2 dozen or more.. then wrap it in saran wrap. Everyone grabs as they go out the door. Or For a quick snack for group events.fields trips.. or beach..many eat it for breakfast.. Mostly made with spam how u fried it..but sometimes teriyaki chicken..n or hot dogs.. Gotta make a big pot of steamed rice.
We make it a little different More Nori it completely covers with two ends open.. .. N have musubi molds to get a tight rectangle..some use the can itself as a mold for rice....think thats more so. cuz it's eaten by self not in bento dish..They also use Teriyaki sauce to glaze spam. That one is real good..i definitely prefer glazed Teri than plain.
It's funny because people who come from continental U.S especially children once they eat it want more n more.. But their faces are priceless looking at our quick eats in stores..
At home after i make musubi..I give a quick heat on all sides in pan way nori is not as rubbery.( full wrap style)
When we were kids 60s 70s musubi wasn't as popular but think it started in 80s n 90s it took off.. During 70s was teriyaki beef n chickem sticks ..ume balls ( salted plum)_cone sushi _ n manapua ( which is Chinese bao steamed buns with char siu meat inside).
The old days families would gather and bring all those dim sum type food.. Chinese Japanese Korean every ethnic group cuz our families were n are so diverse..
Now they are making musubi full wrap style n making it tempura covered then slicing it with sauce..
Thanks again <3

Hello, this is an unrelated question: I went to an Oriental Market today and got some bonito, but they aren’t flakes they’re almost like little pellets. I was told this is for soup, and to use like one or two spoon fulls; but am I supposed to strain them like the flakes, or mix them in like a soup powder? Thank you!

You forgot the sauce which is paramount for the dish.

What does spam even taste like? Is it like... corned beef-ish, just pork?

I find it funny spam is one of those things you either love it or hate it. I enjoy making what I'm sure many would consider an off style of Tamagoyaki by cutting spam into 1/4" batons browning on all sides and placing it in pan prior to rolling 1st layer, then 2nd layer is sprinkled with cheddar cheese rolled and then finish off with last roll using the remaining egg. Makes for an interesting bite and when something like peri-peri sauce is added for me Yummy.
