Can't believe how good the smartphone camera have gotten in the past 7 years and it makes me think how much better it will be in a few more

What lens was on the camera tho? While I agree the differences are shrinking, they’re still miles apart. Shallow depth of field? Open the aperture to 2.8 or larger. Shallow DOF on a phone? Either get absurdly close to the subject and refocus or use a “portrait” mode and nitpick the subject’s edges for errors. Why can’t phone photos just be getting better? Why does traditional photography need to lose in order for phonography to succeed?
