I can affirm this. I have owned 3 generations of 3 series BMWs. a E36, E46 and an E90. Each Generation after the E36 got worse. All Straight 6s and around 3 liters NA engines. The E90 was the worst and got the least amount of miles before it was just too expensive to fix. Yes you will get the "ohhh ahhh nice car" from people, but at the expense of your wallet. Not worth it in the end, wish I had all that money back. I’ve owned Audis and Mercedes as well, same story. Should have bought a Lexus from the beginning. Reliability is also a form of Luxury.

Does sat nav in the USA display the prevailing speed limit ? Reason I ask. Coming fairly soon cars made in the EU will be apparently be fitted with speed limiters. The cars max speed will controlled by the sat nav. Could the same thing happen in the USA ?

my mother had bought one new e36 325i convertible in Silver back in 1994, and after she passed it is now mine. At least I don't have to worry about the extreme cost spike

Just buy an old LS 430. They are reasonably priced, easy to work on, and will laster forever. Another plus is that their value is only going up at this point.
