Fantastic video, me being a long time drywaller my self. your method is correct and that patch should last for many years.
The only thing I will add is this tip I learned years ago.
after your final coat of mud it dried, I use a flashlight or a droplight angled while you do the final sand, the light enhances any imperfections on the surface. The light will show you exactly what needs to be sanded for a perfectly sooth surface everytime

I appreciate the tight editing for your DYI video. You get right to the details of the project with excellent tips without superfluous talk or video. Very efficient!

Good job. You could also cut the new drywall piece a bit bigger. Break off the gypsum from the back side. Then use the drywall paper as your tape.

I just want to say that I LOVE that you’re a feminine woman who not only does her own repairs, but also actually knows what she’s doing! It is very encouraging. I do so much of my own repairs, from car repairs to electronic and home repairs. Anytime a guy hears I’m going to repair something it’s always the same panicked reaction that I’m going to mess it up. Why? Because I’m a female? I know more about home and car repairs than every man I’ve ever dated and its solely because I choose to seek out the knowledge to perform each task. Thanks to people like you, there is very little one cannot learn to diy via Google and YouTube.

Excellent video, excellent advice. It's great that people like you exist. I'm a typical home owner who found out how to do things himself only after overpaying many times for all sorts of jobs. After some years of experience I got all sorts of tool obviously and try to do what I can myself. A video like this is a gift. I would do it more simple but this is good. I had a leakage and will have to do something with my ceiling in the living room. My wife is giving my sh... I'll get on with it soon after this video.

I'm a plasterer now working as a site patcher and I rarely use tape in a patch as you can only sand as far back as the tape, Easifill forced between the old and the new bonds the two together, then two tight coats of joint cement

Rare to find a video this well done and informative on youtube. Thank you for this!

Don’t recommend sanding between coats, just use trowel to knock off peaks. If you do choose to sand then after brushing dust off, use a damp sponge to remove dust or next coat adhesion will be compromised.
To get a good paint finish you also need to build up some roller texture over repair area to match surrounding paint roller texture.

Of all the patch videos I have ever seen, this one has got to be the best. Thank you much!

Cut the patch first and trace it on the hole. One of those moments, "why didn't I think of that"! Thanks for the tip.

perfect instruction- love the details and the logic provided to do the detail (like 3 coats and stick to seams to sand etc. seems common sense but common sense isn't too common anymore....

You have yet again provided a very good DIY video. It is people like you and many others who made Youtube my favourite place to visit. I recently spent ten days preparing my rental property for incoming tenants. I done all the work which would have had cost me a few thousand dollars as well as having to endure the arrogance and shoddy work of some of the tradies. Much appreciated.

The tape she uses is made of fiberglass, which irritates the skin on most people. Wear a long sleeve shirt and nitrile gloves to avoid skin irritation.

I’ve followed your way of patching the little hole on the plasterboard and it works out well. Thank you for the informative video, great sharing indeed.

Awesome information! For super smooth finish for painting, I also sand between coats of primer with a hand sander - 150-120 grit.

I recently had my hallway smoke detectors replaced and I need to remove the old one which has left a hole in the ceiling. I’ve never done any repairs to the walls or ceilings before but this looks relatively straightforward and inexpensive to do. Great video, thank you!
