The Best Fish and Chips with crispy batter simple recipe

A traditional English meal that originated in UK in the 1860’s. There’s nothing nicer than fresh fish and chips but the fish has to be fresh, the batter crispy and the chips (fries) to have the right amount of crisp but still have soft potato on the inside. See my fries (chip) recipe as it’s not in this video. You can use any basic white fish, some prefer cod, some use haddock and in Australia flake is common. In this recipe I used Australian flathead, but you can use any flaky white flesh fish. It just has to be fresh, frozen won’t yield the same results. There are many gimmicky batters out there, from using vodka, to pressurizing the batter, resting overnight etc, while these techniques do work, who has the time to fuss with that nonsense. This recipe takes 5 minutes to make, quicker than you can heat your deep frying oil and the batter will be perfect.

This is the first batter recipe that actually produced a crispy, delicious crust. I did not have fizzy water, but I remembered an English friend of mine said he always used beer...so I did. Perfect! Even fussy husband was impressed! Thank you!

Joel, if you are feeling like something spicy, for the amount of dry mix you used on this recipe, add a level teaspoon of cayenne pepper powder when you put in the tumeric and stir. Really gives the fish a zing, but not to hot, and it is good. If you like a little spicy food once in a while, plus the tartar sauce helps cool it down a little.

Chef, I just made a batch of cod with your recipe.This is the real deal right here. I used some beer instead of the seltzer and it came out so light and crispy.

My dad made the best battered fish I've ever eaten, plain flour, salt and tap water! Nothing else. I've never got it so good 😢,

Joel, i go back and watch this video, even if i'm not making it that day, it gives me an appetite. I only watch 7 or 8 food sites on a regular basis, yours is 1 of them of course. I want you to gain more subs, but i also tend to watch sites like yours where you actually answer my friend. In states, 4 whitefish are very popular, from cost perspective the most costly are halibut, cod, walleye, whiting(walleye is fresh water fish), in that order. I view a couple of large subs sites, and i just started answering viewers questions for them, lol, mistake, now i have folks contacting me for answers to q's from large sites. Like can i use cod instead of halibut = yes, can i use baking soda instead of baking powder = no. I do not want a site, but i almost have one, lol. Have a good day my friend.

I saw a lot of videos and i came across your video and i made this recipe exactly the way youve given im never eating fish and chips at any other place again these are this is the best fish ive ever had like for real great recipes im a fan

Using ur recipe i also added pounded biscuit n sparkling oldenlandia water n added lime juice. White fish fillet. My family just love it. So crispy. Thank u so much.

My fish turned dark red when i put it into frying pan 🙈. But it tasted fine. The batter was nice yellow gold color.

Thanks for the good recipe. I made it today. I went fishing with friends yesterday and got alot of pollock, so i used that to make fish and chips using this recipe. It was very good! I have to fish more and make this! 😂
