In this video, Dr. Berg talks about intermittent fasting, low carbohydrate, and your thyroid. The pituitary gland sends a message down to the thyroid at the base of the neck about 2 and a half inches wide. The gland that triggers the main thyroid hormone is being controlled by the pituitary by TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone.

The thyroid then releases the hormone called T4 (an inactive thyroid hormone), 4 which represents the number of iodine molecules. He also talks about what influences these hormones.

What Affects T3 and T4 hormones:
• Low Carbohydrate Diet and Fasting – Could cause low normal T3. Simply because T3 is constantly getting feedback from the environment.
• Stress and Infection – Could cause an alteration in the thyroid stimulating hormone, low T3 and T4.

I fast everyday because as I got fat adapted I wasn't hungry in the morning, so it turned into automatic IF. I fast 16/8 sometimes a little more. It works for me. The amount of energy I have and clarity on keto and IF is truly a blessing. It has NOT affected my thyroid!

Hello Dr. Berg. Greeting from Mongolia 🇲🇳 😄. I’ve been following your channel for three years and really appreciate your advices. Yesterday I became an admin of a keto group on Facebook. And keto isn’t well known in Mongolia. Our followers have no idea about Keto and IF. Can I use your videos and advices to make people aware about Keto and IF ?

Dr Dr Berg. I have been doing the IF and Keto, getting it down to 1-2 meals/day. I have now been told I have an hyperactive thyroid, with a swollen thyroid gland. The local doctor said it’s a low carb diet. Do you have any advice how to handle this naturally?

As a layman this type of video is incomprehensible to me. There are too many medical, technical terms to make it understandable or practical. This type of lecture would be suitable at a medical college. For example, I don't know what is carbohydrates, and T3.

This means slower growth, including hair. This is why Keto + IF tends to make people have slower hair growth, even stops growing completely and the initial shock makes it fall out excessively. People with already thin hair will aggrevate the condition going into this, but might recover and actually reverse it down the road when the body has healed ( 6 months later ).

Dr. BERG, how about when your thyroid was removed? Is it even harder to loose weight on Ketos?

I will try Intermittent Fasting as a last resort. I have chronic edema and am non-responsive to herbs. Bloods showed highly elevated prolactin levels (I was not pregnant) indicating pressure on the Pituitary Gland. A tumor was suspected but a MRI showed a large arachnoid cyst, duck egg size. I am fat, have chronic edema, have a low metabolic rate, and Intermittent Fasting is a last resort. I am tired of football ankles.
