Anne of Green Gables - on DVD October 2016

It is the late 1870s on beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada. Anne Shirley (Ella Ballentine) is mistakenly sent there to Matthew (Martin Sheen, The West Wing) and Marilla Cuthbert (Sara Botsford, The Fog), a middle-aged brother and sister who had intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm. Though Marilla is determined to bring discipline to the irrepressible Anne,
neither has any idea as to the profound impact they will soon have on each other’s lives.
True to its literary source while providing new surprises, this beautifully filmed adaptation of the classic tale will delight audiences of all ages.

The Netflix one is better.
Amy Beth (I think plays the Netflix anne) is much more better in acting.

I never knew this even existed and I will probably forget about without watching it. Meghan and Jonathon will forever be my favorite Anne and Gilbert, period. But I did honestly enjoy Amybeth and Lucas from 'Anne With an E' and I can't wait to see if there will be a second season. But this movie here just seems all off and that Gilbert ? No thanks.

I don't feel like the little girl is passionate enough. She said "I hate you" like "pass the potatoes." Megan Follows blew up when she lost her temper. Although the girl playing Diana was on Odd Squad, so that's something.

Ok, so I finished Anne with an E and loved it! Then I watched this one, and I loved it so much too! Comparing these amazing Anne versions with each other isn’t fair; it’s like comparing pie and cake. They’re both sweet, and they make you feel that happy, nostalgic, ecstatic feeling! 💕🍰🥧💕

No. NO! What the heck is this?! I saw Gilbert and about screamed. Jonathan Crombie is Gilbert Blythe, not whoever that is. Oh my goodness.

sad..but no one played anne like Megan follows...she was perfection... and as was Jonathan combine as Gilbert..gorgeous and perfect... the entire cast in the 1985 adaptation was perfection and incomparable..

This is surprisingly sweet and genuinely heartfelt. For a lot of us nothing will surpass the version we grew up (1987 forever!) BUT, now I'm at an age closer to Marilla than Anne, this version lets us see just how tough things must have been for a spinster with no children at a time when a woman's worth was measured by her ability to marry well and have children. I really enjoyed this. Ella Balantine is the right mix of earnest and determined while Sheen and Botsford are perfect as Matthew and Marilla.
The only thing that let it down was the location - no where near as beautiful as the 80's versions. Go see it! It took me straight back to when I was a little girl discovering Anne Shirley for the first time. (Translation: Bring a hanky.)

Here's a hint for actresses playing Anne Shirley. Anne is always true to her big feelings, and she takes everything too seriously. That means she doesn't hide the fact she's in rapturous delight or the depths of despair. Offend her ego, and she has a volcanic outburst that's hard to come back from. When she's polite, she's not smiley and fake, she's stiff-backed and awkwardly proper, because, again, she takes every emotion extremely seriously. She's an ENFP!

Her lines are delivered with more passion than any other cast member. It's what's so lovable about Anne -- she lives out her passion and truth (to herself), when we only wish we could. This 2016's Anne delivers her lines with insipid intensity and smiles [big] too often. She looks like a character from any other family friendly movie. Not her fault, unless she's directing herself.

I think that this movie was very sweet. Anne is a story that deserves to be retold generation after generation and I think that we should appreciate each retelling as if it stands on it's own--apart from the versions preceding it. The characters in this movie are not exactly how they are in the original but that doesn't mean that they are not full and dynamic. I think the child actors did a good job and were wonderfully delightful:) looking forward to the TV movies that follow this one.

I just finished watching this. First let me begin by saying that the original AoGG with Megan Follows is perhaps my favorite film of all time. I've watched it too many times to count. Having said that, I really did try to watch this new adaptation without bias. I did love the scenery, thought that was beautifully done, as were the costumes. Ella Ballentine was adorable as Anne. However, I felt that the entire movie was rushed. The dialogue was very quick, and there was not much chemistry between the characters. I don't blame the actors for that, it was the way the script was written. The relational developments just weren't there, in my opinion. I thought it was cute, but certain cherished scenes were missing or altered, and the ending was very abrupt. I think had this movie been allowed to be longer in length (maybe an extra 45 min-1 hr?) then there would have been more time to develop the characters, their relationships, etc. and it wouldn't have felt so rushed.

I'll probably give it a try, just like I will watch Netflix's version, but... even though that young actress looks great and adorable, I still think Megan Follows nailed the character. She was so... so Anne! It's hard to forget about her interpretation. And don't get me started on Gilbert, Marilla, Matthew... I still think it's great to remake it because it'll allow young people (why do I sound like I'm an old lady?) to find out about this beautiful story, but the 1985 version will always be in my heart. It's got more... soul? Don't know if that makes any sense but there's a certain aura wrapping the 1985 version. Maybe it's just nostalgia but it just looks more "dreamy" and authentic to me.

Just watch the Netflix series. To me this captured exactly what the book was about and Anne was perfect.

So many haters not even willing to give it a chance. I loved the movies with Megan Follows and I'm looking forward to this one as well. This Anne looks slightly more age appropriate. Anne was only 11 in the books. I loved Megan Follows, but she always felt a little old for me.
