ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
By Lucy Maud Montgomery
Audiobook read by Karen Savage
Genre: Children's Fiction

Anne of Green Gables is a 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942). Written for all ages, it has been considered a children's novel since the mid-twentieth century. It recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl who is mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a middle-aged brother and sister who had intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in Prince Edward Island. The novel recounts how Anne makes her way with the Cuthberts, in school, and within the town.

Since its publication, Anne of Green Gables has sold more than 50 million copies and has been translated into 20 languages. Montgomery wrote numerous sequels, and since her death, another sequel has been published, as well as an authorized prequel. The original book is taught to students around the world.

The book has been adapted as films, made-for-television movies, and animated and live-action television series. Musicals and plays have also been created, with productions annually in Canada since 1964 of the first musical production, which has toured in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan.

Based on the popularity of her first book, Montgomery wrote a series of sequels to continue the story of her heroine Anne Shirley:
- Anne of Avonlea
- Anne of the Island
- Anne of Windy Poplars
- Anne's House of Dreams
- Anne of Ingleside

I was wrongfully convicted of a a crime in my early 20s. And spent just over 13 years in a very dark, and horrible place. But, this book, even as a 260lb, 6ft 2 man, could allow an escape and the writer of this book helped me get out of that place more times than I can count. Love this book. I cannot get the time lost back, but the little moments of escape, helped me cope and stay away from trouble in there.

Her voice is perfect for telling this great story. She sounds like Anne herself.

I feel so darn lucky that I've been in every room of the Green Gables property — it makes this story feel uncannily realistic, and is such a wonderful feeling. I highly recommend others visiting Prince Edward Island to see it, too.

This audiobook helped me remain sane while stuck at home with high fever, cough and bodyache while recovering from Coronavirus/ Covid-19 infection. Thank you to the wonderful reader. This book took my mind off my misery and helped me think of something other than my symptoms and my data. Thanks you so much 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😊

I named my first daughter Avonlea because Anne describes it as the most beautiful place on earth. She fits the bill too :)

This story is so sweet and speaks so much to growing up as a girl full of dreams. The way Mathew and Murilla end up loving her like family had me tearing up so many times.

I did not read this book until I was 35. Well, I listened to it, but anyways it is the absolute BEST story written SO WELL. Seriously, you don't find literature written so well hardly anymore like this. It is funny, sad, wholesome, thought provoking and relatable. I was so happy to be so surprised with my own enjoyment of it.

I can not express how much I admire this audio book. I stumbled over it by coincidence, but I must say it became my favorite book. I am a student and I often feel anxiety due to exams, but this fresh and beautiful character of Anne reminds me of the important things in life and that I shall always do my best as she does in order to grow every day a little bit more.

There was a boy in my school, I always looked toward him as my enemy but three years later now I found him my best friend.I m glad that Anne's story has a portion which is quite similar to me.

So thankful to be listening to this today. When I was little, my mother read this book to our church school students every day. She passed a year ago, but listening to this brings back to me those sweet moments n time.
