Anne and Gil were true soul mates; such strong acting because of the simplicity and authenticity...we as the audience were watching a real-life story take place. One of the many things I've always loved about Anne and Gilbert is the fact that they had so many formative experiences together. Or if not strictly together, at least in proximity to each other, and that's what made their bond so meaningful. This little montage shows it well. With Avonlea being a small town, they were always in each other's lives -- that picnic, that school function, that walk through the woods, that concert, that Christmas party, that fateful day on the lake... just years and years of shared moments. They got into scrapes, competed fiercely, laughed, cried, fought, at times were honest and vulnerable, and other times, intensely guarded. They infuriated each other, inspired each other, disappointed each other, humbled each other, grew together, grew apart, then gravitated back together -- multiple times! Truly full circle with these two. And sadly, most (if not all) adaptations never even get to their later storylines -- marriage, building a life together, having children, losing children, growing old together. Their full story is so thematically rich, it can resonate with anyone at any phase of life.
