This is easily one of the most nostalgic inducing pieces of music ever created.

It is interesting reading how many ways this song affected people ... it affected me the first time I heard it way back in the 70's. I was 15 and had grown up in a severely abusive family of which further detail is not necessary other than life was unimportant. I remember this song taking me to another place explaining my feelings and emotions. Each time I hear this song even to today I get teary eyed. Big Time Kudos to the band America.

A stunning song that paints a picture of the long-lost world of hippies, 1970s music, endless days of sunshine and youthful future dreams. Every time I listen to " Horse with no name" I'm always amazed at how music like this lifts the mood, and soul out of 2022 back to the1970s . Sounds as good as it did half a century ago.

I went to America's tire to buy some new tires and the wait was long. I went and sat in my car and put on my America CD and cranked it up quite a bit. I had a" Horse with No name" playing and the reception that I got from the other people waiting was unbelievable! People begin singing the song and swaying in time to the music. I got a LOT of thumbs up. Excellent era for music.

This song came out when I was 15. Because of this record I learned to play the acoustic guitar and have been playing for 40+ years. What memories of this band and others like Seals and Crofts, CSN, Janis Ian, Joni Mitchell Gordon Lightfoot and too many others. For my life time the 70's was the best decade of music. Rock, folk, Motown and even disco were all roaring. Glad to have lived it. Loved all the genre's of the 70's.

This song was coming out coincidentally with my return from Viet Nam. I had gone to high school in the desert and the Marines were sending me back to the very same town. The desert felt so good to be "out of the rain". All my old friends threw their arms around me and welcomed me back regardless of their feelings about the war. I was lucky.

I was FT. Hood Texas when the song came out, I as waiting for freedom as I had just got back from Veitnam. My whole world had fallen apart on June 17, 1971 when a mortar round went off about 10 feet away hitting the left side of my head.

To make a long story short I got married on November 11, 1972 and we are still together, brain damage and all.

Mellower times, seemed to be a lot less hate, more acceptance. My God, was it really 46 years ago? I was getting out of the Army and had my whole life in front of me. For those younger ones reading this, enjoy every day, do what you love, try to understand those different from yourself, be true to yourself and love with all you got because time will go by and 46 years from now you will be wondering like me, where the hell did it go to and why so fast? Life is nothing but a collection of memories and 1972 and this song are 2 of my best.

I was 14 when this song showed up. When I turned 22 and had hitchhiked for a few years I joined the Navy. From San Diego I got sent to Japan and the USS Midway. While at sea a guy told me " we are going to be at sea for months ! He said buy a cheap guitar in PI and so I did.... $20.oo for a handmade guitar. Indeed we worked 12 hours a day.... 7 days a week! After each day I would practice in the passageway, getting help from another guitar player now and then. Once a young guy taught me the cords for this all two of them ! LOL If you get the rythym correct those two cords make that song. Sorry to ramble but here is my point. After 92 days of work in the gulf the captain gave us 2 days off.. ( called steel beach on a carrier ) and in the afternoon people began taking chairs up onto the flight deck. Soon we had a circle of probably 65 guys with their guitars, mandolins and banjos sitting in a large circle. Some men were good... some like me were just learning . We played many many songs but when we hit this one it seemed as if everyone knew it ! The truly cool thing was that someone was plucking this background thump, lots of melody and a few that came in on that 12 string lead ! Man we were flying ! I was sitting on a metal chair holding a Philipino guitar with a crowd of other biys missing home.... the sun shining across my face and this awesome tune coming alive all around us. No way words could make it real enough but man that song took us all home if even for a few moments
