Had my i5-4690k for at stock for 5 years and I finally overclocked it this year and while it feels a bit faster on certain games, the noise and heat is noticeable.

Overclock or keep at stock?
No. KEEP IT IN STOCK!

jayztwocents would say "you're leaving performance on the table" but are you really? the K at the end of the model name isn't a bonus, it's just intel removing their draconian restriction on their non-K processors

Overclocking is mostly a hobby nowadays. Performance-wise it's pretty pointless, you'll just waste tons of power.

Thank you for breaking down the long videos into smaller tech info. This is a really nice idea! ( I watch the full length of all your videos though, it is my hubby)

Dude spot on. I just tried auto OC for 5900x and it felt like games were stuttering a tad which is weird so I just kept it at stock and everything runs smooth. Really don’t know why that would happen.

Rogue, take it! Take it! Let Tech build you the i9 10850K. 👍

That’s exactly how I feel. I overclocked my 9900k to 5ghz, and quickly returned it to stock settings. The extra speed you get is minimal, and I actually started to notice my cpu fan making a lot of noise

"And differences make the world go round and it's ok that we do things differently." Tech 2020

Tech, it's this type of statement that comes from your heart to us viewers. It's the core of the Tech Deals channel. Thank you sir. Thank you Rogue. Thank you XD. And the kiddos (smoosh/squish mellows) too!! I'm hopeful and excited for a better 2021. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

Overclocking is still a good factor in some cases.
For example with lower end intel CPUs at 1080p such as the i5 10600k, if you overclock it to 5.1GHz you will get stock 10900k level performance.
In more “realistic” cases you are spot on as always though

Overclocking is definitely more for someone interested in tinkering with their PCs. There is some more performance to be gained but 5-10 more frames in games when you are already over 100+ offers no discernable difference. Unless you are using a 240 or 360hz monitor and the extra few frames are the difference between running at the full refresh and not; then maybe. However, yes, ryzen at the moment is so tuned from the factory that, at best you get a small gain in multi-core and no improvement in single or at worst a negative in single core and no improvement in multi-core. We are absolutely at a point where stock base and boost clocks are perfectly acceptable for an average user, but the option to overclock is better than not having it.

I overclocked my i9-9900K to 52-50-50-50-49-49-48-48. Many of the games I run only cares about the first 4 cores, and the 52 on the first core mainly serves to perplex my friends who can’t figure out why my system does so well in single threaded benchmarks.

Thank you. I tried to explain this on a group and they we not happy about it. I just don't see the point in overclocking it increases temperatures way too high and noise, just to gain 3 fps
