Personally my pre game anxiety typically ranged from 6-8 depending on the stage! But I was able to turn anxiety and nerves into being nervously excited and more “pumped up” with these 5 steps

Best things I've learnt over the years:

1. Have a banana and a ginger tea/drink before the game to combat 'butterflies' (both very good for the stomach)

2. Have a ritual before each game. Eating and drinking certain foods/drinks, clothes, music etc

3. Keep paper towels handy to combat the clammy hands

4. Deep breathing and believe in the power of visualization

Good luck all!

I’m a freshman just starting basketball this season, and I am really anxious about basketball practice every day. All I can think about is going and embarrassing myself by failing or being last on sprints. I can’t do anything else I like to do because all I can do is think about basketball and I hate it. I feel like quitting would get rid of all of these horrible feelings, but i can’t quit because we only have had 2 days of practice. I shouldn’t have this much stress about PRACTICE. Practice isn’t supposed to be stressful and I know that I’m aloud to do something wrong at practice but I’m just worried about it all the too, e.

10/10 ! I am a fencer and in competition I perform about 80% worse than in practice. As soon as the match starts I just panic. I am extremely afraid of embarrassing myself or letting ppl down and suddenly I forget everything I know. I think I worry that if I do my best and it’s still not good enough I won’t have an excuse for anyone or myself. And I hate that I think this way. I have nationals next month and I’m afraid this mindset might overtake me. Thank you so much for this video, I’m going to use these tips to do my best!

I play basketball and I was just explaining to my mom how I can make like all shots in practice and I can literally handle the ball so good. Then I get in the game and I like miss all my shots and turnover the ball sometimes. And when I see my coach disappointed and my teammates looking at me like “what’s wrong with you, just make the shot” it works me up so much and I get so nervous that if I mess up again, I’m gonna let everybody down and that mindset makes me mess up even more. Then I get embarrassed and I just end up having a bad game. I need to overcome that so I’m def gonna try these tips.

I’ve been having really bad race day anxiety. Last race I had a panic attack mid race, my body went into fight or flight and before I could even think found myself off the track before the race was even over. This video and seeing the comments has really comforted me. I’m going to try implementing these things into my life. Thank you!

Great stuff! Every athlete has experienced this! Many great tools to overcome…music also helps! I always had my headphones in pre-meet to keep my nerves away!

Hi, I just wanna tell you that I really appreciated your video in every way. All the things you've said make sense to me, I'm naturally anxious and specially on games with a lot of people I really start to feel insecure about myself, my capabilites, indirectly and negatively comparing myself to other players of the other team. I often start to feel weak and that I am not capable of anything, that will fail unporpusefuly and everyone will se me failing drastically. But your 5 steps really make sense, and on the best perfomance games I used some of them. Hopefully it gets better this next season. Feeling a lil more confident now

Having competed in professional auto/motorsports for 30 years, I could have benefitted from these tactics early in my career. In the beginning, I would lose my breakfast before the start of every race - level 9 stuff. Later, I stumbled on some of these techniques and put that energy into performance. Good stuff here.

I’m a gymnast and I go to tournaments/competitions every about 2 weeks. Even though I go to competitions super often I still get anxiety which makes me mess up my routine completely and this helped! Ty

I'm swimming today. I'm going to a pretty good school to compete and It's my first time back at swimming competitively in high school. My anxiety is alot due to me thinking I will be embarrassed or get a cramp and can't perform. I have only been getting into the game for two weeks now. The worst part is that I get sick and feel like my lunch is going to come up😅. And the fact that this is my first time swimming as a senior (gr 10) just crazy. Like in practise, I had this massive boost of energy and swam like I didn't know I could but I'm afraid it's just a one time thing🚶‍♂️.

I've been a league/semi-pro bowler for over 10 years and I have been dealing with probably the second or third worst series of performance issues. I get really down on myself and miss badly more than I'd like. Letting my emotions drag me and my scores down, which affect my teammates. Probably an 8.5/10 on the anxiety scale.

I always get super nervous when doing something like getting picked for running or in a competition or tornament and ill test this tommorow to see if it works:)

10/10
When i was playing a squash tornament not to big just a tornament in the local area that happends once a year
Just to give context i havent played Squash for 2yrs due to Qurantine and only had 6 days of trainning(2 days of trainning in a week)
But the first match againts a good old rivalry who i would always beat most of the time but i was so nervous every shot i missed i look down at the floor and just sweating at my palm and just shaking and un-able to focus and everytime i gain a point i would miss when giving the ball and i lost but after i lost i went out one of my father friend who had kids that did really good in Squash watched me play and told me not to be un couraged and those words really changed me and the other 2 matches i did better but still lost the 2nd oppenet
