Today I'll be teaching you guys a few sports psychology tips on how to overcome sports anxiety, and my personal secret on how exactly I overcame the biggest challenges and the most nerve racking games of my career.

Anytime you have a big contest or a big game I think it's pretty common to experience some type of sports and performance anxiety. For a lot of people that performance anxiety can be very overwhelming and hard to manage.

Just like any type of goalie training we do to develop our physical skills, we also need to deliberately train our mental skills. So today I'm here to show you exactly what you need to do to overcome performance anxiety, bring your mind to the present, and put yourself in the right mental and physical state to give you the best chance of succeeding when everything is on the line. You need to develop that mental toughness, and you need to practice your mental repetition of psychological mental skills as well.

We talk about the mindset you'll need, what to tell yourself exactly to help bring your mind into the present moment and practice mindfulness, and how to achieve a state of flow by getting lost in the process.

As goalies such an enormous part of the game surrounds around dealing with and managing pressure and sports anxiety, and like any other hockey training you do you need to work on your mental skills as well to make them stronger.

QUESTION -- Have you ever faltered in a big game? If so when was it and why do you think you faltered? Let us know in the comment section below, we would love to hear form you guys and help as best we can!

I think of my sports brain as a computer. I want 100% of my processing capacity being used on making the next save. Only two things exist - making the next save, and things that try to distract me from making the next saves. In between plays my mind can wander a little, but whistle to whistle every non-next-save-related thought is accepted then released without self-blame. Mindfulness is a good term to google to grind this.
