In WWII, my uncle was a photographer who flew in both reconnaissance missions, and aftermath assessments. He was suspended by a harness, over the open bomb-ay doors, with his crew mates hanging on to his belt/trousers…while anti-aircraft artillery were furiously targeting his aircraft. 😬😳I believe he would have loved the satellite technology, if it had existed!

If they hit a launcher, explosive/flammable debris may be distributed around the area. So some of those burned areas might be from that debris.

It would be interesting to find out which direction the wind was blowing around the time of the strike. If there was a North Wind at the time, there could very well be a hit on the flight line.
