I wear my life jacket anytime I'm on the water and always. My fishing buddies think it's silly and unnecessary. The amount of people who underestimate the dangers of water (and forests) is utterly mind boggling to me.

I read more about the Maynard family. Family members are saying that the authorities won't reveal what the survivors said happened. How could they withhold that info from the family? So sad.

I live in Homer, Alaska. That family drowned right in Kachemak Bay. Their bodies could not be recovered. All should wear life vests no matter how high or low the seas are. They had no business being out on the water that day because the seas were too rough. Almost all the charters came back to shore or canceled the fishing trip. Thats just how it goes fishing in these waters. I dont know why they were out to begin with that day. Four did survive. The family would've perished quickly...within minutes if they had stayed in the water. Even in the summer, our waters are way too cold. I've lived here for 34 years and we've lost many to these waters. The seas were more than 2 feet that day...it was white capping everywhere.

Years ago I was on a boat in Gaspe, swells so big the boat literally disappeared in them, and we clung on for dear life. No drill, no lifejackets, no orienting at all. We went around Perce Rock, and I will never forget watching walls of water surround us, feeling helpless.

You don't have time if you have a boat accident if you get flung out or if it capsizes to find a life preserver and put it on you're out of the boat immediately usually if you're not wearing it to begin with it's not going to do you any good. Always wear your life vest

Prayers first for these people who are lost 🙏. Many years ago while duck hunting on the Hudson River heading to our blind the boat took on water and we capsized just 100 ft from shore. In the first light of day we struggled to shore with the Jon boat and stretch canvas kayak in tow. We all had life jackets but none of us were wearing them. Dumb! Since that day almost 40 years ago l wear a vest no matter the temp, weather conditions or time of year.

My Dad always made us have the vests on period. No ifs ands or buts. I truly believe that should be all the time for everyone.

Welcome to Alaska this week Dave, I wish I could meet you when you are here- welcoming you to my home state and have you sign all of your books that I have collected. I have remained subscribed from nearly the beginning of this channel. Having worked on many different boats here I know that there are a multitude of problems that can occur when anyone is on the waters here, I spent years at sea and had to scramble to save the boat a few times under different circumstances and I had many friends that didn't make it back to shore. My heart aches for the Maynard family and it is strange how the authorities don't let on to what the survivors encountered. We all have to remain vigilant while on the water, stay safe out there and prayers for the missing🙏🙏🙏🙏

I would like to add that life jackets have due dates, please check them yearly and replace as required. Also, I always have “x-large size” for my 6FT 7” 310 LB son-in -law on our Lund boat (aluminum hull). And if the locals say to us “it’s too windy today on the lake—don’t go out fishing”——-even in our 24 ft Lund fishing boat we listen and stay at the campsite!!!!

Howdy, 30 year AK Resident who has lived and worked all over this beautiful state.
In July 2020 I stopped @ mile 70 Steese hwy ponds to shoot. After checking the area for other people on the trails. I started shooting a variety of guns after about ten minutes while reloading in the open door of my truck, I saw movement off to my right and saw the biggest sasquatch I have ever seen in my over 50 encounters with them in six states! This particular area has had an extensive amount of gold taken out from the area and is well known. There has been numerous sightings and encounters with sasquatch in this area!

You're a solid guy Dave. Ben was lucky to have you as his dad. I'm 23 yrs removed from sister's passing in a similar way. I've mentioned it before in previous comments. I think of you and your wife often. Currently writing a book about the storm of grief from a suicide. My goal is to maybe help illuminate what's left behind & possibly change someone's mind. As well as how my late mother & I got through it together. When you're reunited w your boy one day, you'll be able to understand how many people truly loved you from afar. You're doing the world & humanity a great service. I hope you and your wife can find peace one day much sooner rather than later ❤
