Hi Dave, Scott's friend Greg Craddock here. Over the years I've spent countless days camping/hiking the Citico Wilderness Area that borders the Joyce Kilmer. It's every bit just like the Smokies park in high strangeness. You always feel watched there. Witnessed so many strange lights, sounds, voices and even native drums in the middle of the night. Not to mention the Sasquatch that are absolutely there. Had a ranger in the Smokies park pull up beside me one time as I was hiking a road toward a trailhead. Said he'd noticed my vehicle parked there every weekend and went on to ask me a few questions just checking me out. Before driving away he asked me if I'd ever noticed anything strange back on the trails. I said not really, but like what? I couldn't get him to nail it down, but I had a feeling what he was getting at. I didn't tell him, but I've experienced much squatch activity in that area along with many odd sounds and lights. He actually gave me his card and said if I ever saw anything I'd like to report to let him know. I've never forgotten how you could tell he knew something. He said he was based out of Cades Cove, but covered that whole side of the park. This was a few years ago, but just thought you'd like to know.

This case is as mysterious as it gets. One question I had was: If his family knew the search was ended right after cries of distress, If i was them I would have demanded to know why the searchers did not stay to track the sounds.

Sending all a hug. I know its corny, but we all need hugs. Wrap your arms round yourself and know you matter ❤

About 15 years ago I had two different strange incidents there. Got hit by some kind of electromagnetic pulse 3 times while trying to take a rest. Freaked me out, I didn't know what was happening. Seems someone wanted me to move on. I did. Then coming down the mountain I heard whispering in a language I couldn't identify that would stop when I stopped. I ran the rest of the way.

Another good example of why we must not trust what the government officials say.

Hi Dave,
I have an hour and 20-minutes drive to work and back home every day and these stories make the time go by pretty quick. Thanks.

Cherokee, NC was my wife and I's stopping point when we would go camping in the Smokies and Blue Ridge. That whole area feels like stepping into David Lynch's Twin Peaks. Amazing and breathtaking, but you can tell there's much unknown just beyond the surface of natural beauty.

You know what is very interesting? 99 percent of the places where people have disappeared coincidentally have NO google street view. Meaning they are hardly ever traveled and great places for paranormal things to hide.

Same unanswered questions in every one of these baffling cases. Prayers for the family. Thank you Dave!

I’ve lived right outside of Knoxville over 40 years; have had many strange things happen and heard many stories from others of strange occurrences.

I live in the Smokies! There are definitely some areas I won't go into hiking.

i grew up in robbinsville this incident happened a few years before my time. ive never heard about this till now. its wild to think cause im a big fan of your work. ive spent allot of time in the woods of graham county not much around wolf laurel but i still have had a couple instances where i have been spooked up in the mountains there. there was one time i was harvesting ginseng way back in the woods and outta know where i had this overwhelming feeling come over me that i was not welcome where i was. this was followed by the sound of knocks on wood. i would hear something like an owl hoot but it sounded imitated. i got to where i was thinking there was someone in there with me so i would hoot back i never got a direct response back. the knocks and the hoots continued to follow me. though uneasy about the situation i persisted cause i kept finding ginseng. then the hoot came again and then immediately right after i heard a massive tree fall come from the same direction. i figured whoever had been hootin at me had been in the way of this tree. so i rush over to where this noise came from and everything was completely still. nothing was stirred up no movement or anything. half-way joking half-way tryin to calm myself down i holler out "is you dead!?" nothing. completely silent. i see another ginseng plant, i head for it. then i hear the hoot.. that got me. i quit what i was doing and i sprinted all the way down off the side of the mountain and somehow or another i didnt trip up fall and break my leg i made it outta there. that was definitely the wildest experience ive had back in there. oh people wondering why he went to joyce kilmer being all the way from wisconsin. joyce kilmer is virgin timber maybe he just went for that fact who knows.

Wow another great one Dave! This case is a weird one. Those cries that were heard getting further and further away reminds me of others cases you’ve written about where a child or adult was heard crying out. The family of the missing ran in the direction of the screams and claim they got further and further away from them until the screams were heard no more. And again, the fact that the searchers could not find Jim while he was crying out also reminds me of cases you’ve written about where these people seem to be trapped in a portal and can’t get out and something or someone is in control and taunting the searchers which is why the cries gets further away. I just started reading your fourth book the Devil’s In The Details today.

Too too sad, and highly disturbing, this young man being taken. I've been in different parts of the Appalachian Mountains, Blue Ridge or Smokies---heck even down in minor hollers where the road winds along a creek at the base of rocky hills in-between LaFollette and Jellico, there is weird energy for sure. There is a constant feeling of being watched. I don't know by what, but it doesn't feel friendly to me. I never had any specific run-ins, and I'm very grateful. Thanks for keeping us thinking, Mr. P!

I think he got turned around and lost his way back to the car at night, fell off the 30 foot cliff and was still alive and calling out and some of the rescuers heard him. He was injured and unable to walk and eventually died from exposure, dehydration, and or his injuries. Why did they call off the search the day after 3 different rescuers heard cries that may or may not have been human? That area should have become the new center of a search grid. When new or possibly new evidence is encountered, you thoroughly investigate or search that area.
