Thanks for the tutorial, for those who can't find Auto Smooth - in new versions (4+) it was replaced by "Shade Smooth by Angle" pressing RMB on object. And you can adjust the angle in the menu of last action.

Great video. I have been using Blender for modeling for quite some time, however, this is a very well done and succinct explanation for how various shading techniques can be used all in one place. Exactly what I was looking for.
