I started King last year with the Institute and definitely want to read more of his work

I started reading King in early 2019, and since then I’ve read 55 of his books, and Firestarter and Misery are the two unbeatable ones for me :)

One of my favorite King books is "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", it is a quick read. Plus, it was made into a fantastic pop-up book! Great video!

I’ve been debating reading the Stand but it is so intimidating. I’m so glad you liked it!!

As with The Outsider and If It Bleeds, there is a character who appears in both theses book and had begun her story prior to these books. Holly Gibney first shows up in Mr. Mercedes and returns in the follow ups in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy ... Finders Keepers and End of Watch. And there spoiler information in The Outsider for what comes before. Holly too is set to return in 2023 in her own feature novel.

I agree with you in regards to the stand, the shining, and the institute. I think the movie for the shining sort of ruined the reading experience for me. I too couldn’t put the Institute down and the stand is probably my favorite fiction novel in general. I also really enjoyed the green mile. Such a heartbreaking story with very well developed characters.

OH my GOODNESS! I don't have kids but Pet Semetary is in my top 3!!! Its so quintessential King. And I know IT gets so much hype due to the movies BUT it is so underrated as a novel. Its truly a literary masterpiece, the character development alone is freaking mind blowing....but I'm bias because King is my favorite author.

I loved Pet Sematary most of all. Didn't finish The Stand. The Shining is my second favorite. I do respect your choices. It's all subjective.

I must recommend Misery. Its my absolute favorite book of his (one of the few where both the book and the movie are great). And all his short stories are great too but my absolute favorite is Survivor type, in his 1982 anthology Terrors. for non horror, The Dark Tower series is really good (never mind the movie)

Also check out an old Stephen King book called Rose Madder, in which he writes so well from a woman’s perspective that I was really blown away. It’s a relatively unknown book of his.

I love Stephen King. You should check out the 2 collaborations he did with Peter Straub, also an excellent writer, The Talisman and Black House.

Did you watch the old It movie or the newer ones? I remember watching the old one when I was just a wee little child. It was scary.

Nice presentation! Thank you! Finishing The Institute, totally entertaining, reading 11/22/63 next. I loved reading The Dome - an incidental ending doesn't spoil it if you can be happy with everything before.

Nice to see your tier ranking of Stephen King books! I've been interested in The Outsider and The Institute. I really enjoyed the HBO show The Outsider so I'm thinking the book will be better. Can't believe you've read 10 Stephen King books!!! 😱

If It Bleeds was my first ever Stephen King read (mostly audio, which had amazing production) - i loved the first three stories, but Rat kinda fell flat for me. it was something that i actually picked up when it came out, but i didn't get around to reading it front to back until 2021.

the Bill Hodges Trilogy is next up for me, then The Outsider!
