i didn't dare to install Sonoma as i was worried it would be too much for my old 2013 Mac, but i'm currently using my 11 years old IMac 27 inch (Nvidia GTX780M 4GB en 24GB Ram) with MAC OS Ventura on it (thanks to OCLP) and it plays really beautifully! i can watch youtube in 4K without problem (watch out, Safari doesn't allow it but Firefox does). i also installed libreoffice on it and it works just perfectly...no lag at all. i also plan to create a small guitar studio at home and i'm planning to use my late 2013 Imac in order to connect a Boss Katana Amp on it. This way i should be able to use the Boss Studio software to tweak the sound of my guitar and also download guitar sound patches from the large Boss community. you could not expect from a windows PC to still work so well after 11 years, it would even probably not start at all or take a decade to run through upddates and errors!!

Nice list. I use an old Mac Mini as a file/print server and have Plex on it. I also use it to run HomeBridge, so i can have smart devices that don't work directly with HomeKit to be assessable through the Home App (Like my Ring Doorbell)

I've just discovered that the MacBook Air (c. 2010-2015) is a really beautiful piece of hardware for running Linux, but there are limitations. I use Linux Mint, which I find to be the easiest to install and keep running; on that flavour of Linux, I still haven't managed to get the FaceTime camera working, and you don't get the range of gestures you get with macOS. Oh, and if you wear a metal watchstrap, it's annoying how it scrapes on the computer when you're typing, but that's software-independent. Otherwise, it's a delight to use such a machine, and you can even upgrade the SSD without too much of a problem.

Thanks! I didn’t know all of them. There is a use case for keeping legacy Mac iOS for software and games!

Really interesting 🤔
But unfortunately now what I’m trying to achieve 🥲
Do you have an idea on the best way I can control/mirror my Windows desktop to my Macbook pro 98ft away (30 meter) via cable (type c would be best)? I’m currently using chrome Remote Desktop but have a lot of issue with lags 😩
