To withstand cold temperatures, Wim Hof practices a state of controlled breathing up to the point where hyperventilation occurs. By breathing systematically, he can alter his physiology by decreasing the carbon dioxide level in his blood, raising its pH level. In this clip, Wim Hof discusses how his breathing techniques can affect the body's pH level, yielding potential health benefits.

I really like a lot of his principles and techniques. But, I have to say its just not true that the average person has an acid base imbalance or low oxygen levels built up. I'm a hospital doctor and the vast majority of people even those who are sick still have a pH in the normal range and 02 as well. We check on blood has machines. It's a really serious marker of illness when the pH is out of range and 02 drops. Some people with copd (from smoking yrs) do chronically have high co2 but even then the body compensates to keep pH in range except when very unwell! The average jo really doesn't. That doesn't mesn the breath work isnt valuable but it's just not "fixing" this.

Reminds me of the prison skit on the tv show In Living Color from the 90s.

i don't know if it's because of WHM but i began doing it in may of 2022, both the breathing and the ice baths. i used to get 3-4 fevers a year lasting up to five days each. within the last year, i had ONE mild fever that peaked at 99.1 which clinically to my understanding isn't a fever but i felt run down that day. is it the WHM i'm guessing yes but can't prove it....i do know i feel almost euphoric for the first few hours of the day post ice bath (usually 5-6 minutes at 40-43 degree water temp).

I didn’t know Dr Rhonda has interviewed him... although I like his technique, I’m embarrassed by the interview... it’s like he had know idea what he was talking about and Rhonda was being very polite.

Hi Dr Patrick, what are you thoughts on the Buteyko breathing technique which seems to oppose that of Wim Hof please?

Dr.madam, while listening to your video chat, I was constantly by one fact-That man was sitting in the midst of the platform and you were sitting at the edge of the platform.i was afraid that you may fall off.Very painful to imagine. She should have asked that man to mind his seat first and then empty rhetoric.
