If you're really a fanatic about changing oil like I am, I go 1 step further and after draining the dirty oil, add about 1/2 qt new oil, while the drain plug is open, that way it washes away any remaining dirty oil from the bottom of the oil pan.

The very smart decision from Toyota to return to the better-built oil filter.

Glad to see Toyota come back to the triditional oil filter eventually! Was stupid for a long while.

I have never seen anyone use a torque wrench for the oil drain plug. You are a true professional. Great Video!

Thanks for the excellent step-by-step guide. Clear and concise. I have to say this is a really easy vehicle to change the oil on. I like the cover which keeps the area clean and love that the drain plug dumps oil straight down. No guess work at all about where the oil will go like so many other cars. The filter is also well-placed right next to the drain plug and it came off like a snap for me (unlike other commenters). Thanks for the torque spec (30 ft-lb) on the drain plug. That is the way to tighten the plug, no guess work again. Your RAV4 videos have set the standard, thanks again!

Thank you. Good enough for an old woman to change her oil for the very first time! Much appreciated.

Nice job. That oil filter tool is the best. Works great on zero turns too.
That oil had a bunch of life left in it.

This is honestly the best thing I’ve watched in a while car related. I would hire 20 of you guys immediately if I could. This was by the book and then some. And I absolutely loved that. Pre-filling the oil filter should be a necessity by the manufacture. Upon initial start up after oil change you’ll develop oil pressure quicker than a dry filter. I have conducted many tests with vehicles on how long it takes to initially develop oil pressure after oil change with dry filter and prefilled filter. These tests were done with an aftermarket gauge that reads the psi coming directly out of / after the filter. Dry takes 5 to 7 seconds to get for oil pressure. Prefilled takes 2 to 3 seconds. I have a 2019 RAV4 and I absolutely love it. Once I use up my free oil changes / maintenance Toyota gives me, I’m not letting them touch it after that. This is way too easy especially knowing they went back to an actual filter that you screw on and off.

I appreciate your DIY videos on the 5th gen RAV4! I just got a 2019 LE AWD and am looking into doing maintenance myself. Please also make videos on changing transmission oil, transfer case, and rear differential. Thanks!!

Thanks for your video, I told my wife I could do it in 10 minutes before work without knowing what it involves and now I can still keep that initial estimate and be late for work or add some time and get it done right and tight off to work we go. Thanks man. Much appreciated Iowa guy.

Excellent use of an old soda bottle as a funnel !! I use them also, and if space is really tight, an empty small water bottle.

Tends to be way easier to remove drain plug before the oil filter.

I always add oil in the new filter, helps get oil flowing faster. Thank you for the video.

Thank you for the video. And congrats for tight the bolt by using torque wrench, many people apply manual torque and it's not the best practice. Nice job

Начинать сливать надо масло с пробки а не с фильтра, плюс желательно открыть пробку для заливки масла. Тогда и руки будут чистыми и фильтр легче откручивается.
