Arabic Poetry by Tarafa: A Bit of Wisdom (English lyrics)

قال طرفة بن العبد :

إِذا كُنتَ في حاجَةٍ مُرسِلاً

فَأَرسِل حَكيماً وَلا توصِهِ

وَإِن ناصِحٌ مِنكَ يَوماً دَنا

فَلا تَنأَ عَنهُ وَلا تُقصِهِ

وَإِن بابُ أَمرٍ عَلَيكَ اِلتَوى

فَشاوِر لَبيباً وَلا تَعصِهِ

وَذو الحَقِّ لا تَنتَقِص حَقَّهُ

فَإِنَّ القَطيعَةَ في نَقصِهِ

وَلا تَذكُرِ الدَهرَ في مَجلِسٍ

حَديثاً إِذا أَنتَ لَم تُحصِهِ

وَنُصَّ الحَديثَ إِلى أَهلِهِ

فَإِنَّ الوَثيقَةَ في نَصِّهِ

وَلا تَحرِصَنَّ فَرُبَّ اِمرِئٍ

حَريصٍ مُضاعٍ عَلى حِرصِهِ

وَكَم مِن فَتىً ساقِطٍ عَقلُهُ

وَقَد يُعجَبُ الناسُ مِن شَخصِهِ

وَآخَرَ تَحسِبُهُ أَنوَكاً

وَيَأتيكَ بِالأَمرِ مِن فَصِّهِ

لَبِستُ اللَيالي فَأَفنَينَني

وَسَربَلَني الدَهرُ في قُمصِهِ

The translation made me understand why Arabic is so unique. Only a native or an extremely fluent speaker can truly feel the meanings of the wordrs

The translation is accurate but sooo abstract, if you know fusha you'd know how detailed the poem with so little words

I was stucked with the idea that "arabic is the nost beautiful language". I asked myself why? I searched arabic poetry not only that I found a nice rhytm and voice, but the meaning of his words were just so real...

The translation is probably the best that it could be but knowing Arabic, you can understand the full essence of the beautiful poem that he crafted. People need to listen to this at least once in their life.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ( Salla Allah Alayhi Wasalam) ( صلي الله عليه وسلم) said: 'Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi immediately after each prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and entering Paradise except death.

brothers & sisters pray for me, InshaAllah i am going to learn Arabic to the very depth level. For so that, I can understand Quran and beauty of Arabic, by which prophet (pbuh) spoke and most scholars wrote their work in this majestic and magnificent language.
As Umar radiallah anhu said, "it is part of religion to learn arabic and obligatory " moreover he added, 'Learn Arabic, for it strengthens the intelligence and increases one’s noble conduct.'

This "translation" is not a translation, it has only written the concepts without revealing the deepness of the native words, it showed the wisdom in the poem but not the literature, I know it would be hard or even impossible to reveal that deepness in English, but it could have been much better.

The translation does not do the poem justice, arabic is such an eloquent language.. so much beauty that just cannot be translated
