That's a part of a long poem by Abu al-Hasan al-Jurjani, in which he gives advice to fellow scholars not to dishonor themselves by asking for money from sultans and notables.

Jurjani was an Islamic scholar, literary critic, prominent poet, and the chief justice of the Buyid dynasty in his time. He lived during the 4th century AH.

I really love this poem because it reminds us of what liberty actually means: doing good no matter what. This is absolutely different from today's hijacked understanding where people believe liberty is the ability to do whatever you want, not specifying what desire constitute true free action and what don't.

Our Muslim ancestors were the most free people to have walked on this earth, and we should learn how to be free from them.

Thank you for your work.
