Autistic traits frequently MANIFEST as issues with food and exercise, which can lead to confusion when it comes to distinguishing the two.

In my book “Rainbow Girl,” I share how growing up undiagnosed autistic led to my obsession with food and exercise, which ultimately spiraled into an eating disorder.

One of the greatest barriers to receiving help in ED recovery as an autistic person is that inherent character traits are often labeled as “ED behaviors.”

Not only does this labeling cause invalidation for neurodivergent individuals, but it leads to a lack of safety, which only strengthens one’s need to cling to their eating disorder (after all, this is the life raft in a sea of unpredictability).
