So, funny story. Ants are not usually prolific swimmers. In fact, a lot of ants die if they can't float back to solid ground. But various ant species have developed tricks to survive watery environments, such as building living bridges or rafts and rotating out so that the ant can take a break from drowning. Another trick they use is essentially walking underwater. Ants are able to cling to surfaces underwater, and are fully capable of simply walking down below the water's surface as if it was open air. Some ants go one step further, having small clusters of hair around their bodies that trap small bubbles of air as they go below the surface, giving the ants both a temporary air supply and a diving suit that makes it easier for them to maneuver underwater. This is also how ants typically survive their colonies getting flooded; they create a mass of living bodies that form air pockets, protecting eggs and larvae in flooded chambers until they can be moved.

As an owner of carnivorous plants, I think there are a few misconceptions. In some species of nepenthes, the pitcher fluids are not 100% water but much more viscous. But this video is much more accurate than most other videos on YouTube that straight up lies.

the ants and pitcher plants are similar in function as our own digestive system...

i have a feeling ants are more beneficial to us than we currently understand... i was thinking industrially primarily, however im sure the biggest benefit would no doubt suprise

Came for the mantis vs pitcher plant epic battle, was briefly repulsed by the worms, stayed for all the fascinating info about ants and other creatures actually cooperating with the plants. Great video!

I feel like a kid again and I just listened to a story from my grandpa with late stage dementia. "Gather round boys and ill tell you a story about mantises and carnivorous plants. It all began in 1912 when the Eskimos crashed at Roswell. I believe the president at the time was a lady by the name of Richard Babcock. The United States was called something different because Sam Franklin hadn't landed on Pluto yet. Anyhow, that there is how mantises interact with carnivorous plants."

How the heck do you do this... I always click on your videos to answer whatever questions you ask in the title because I'm curious and you briefly talk about that and continue to hold my attention with hundreds of other related information and I forget why I came here in the first place.... 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 You should be a teacher if you aren't already. ❤️❤️

Cool video, I learned a lot. Besides the hair worm circumstance, what happens to a praying mantis in a carnivorous plant? That is the title and it wasn’t really addressed. That segment seemed more focused on the parasite.

praying mantis are actually friendly towards humans while being deadly towards other smaller creatures

I had a B52 Venus Fly Trap catch a yellow jacket once. I got some great photos from it too. Also, I had a Cobra Pitcher Plant that I put a Jerusalem Cricket in it. It just sat there and never came out and just disintegrated right there. All that was left was the exoskeleton. More great photos came from that one too. I also had the Sun Dews and the American Pitcher Plants. They are so fascinating!

I thought the segment on pitcher plant- ant interaction was fascinating. And I am personally glad that you did not show anyone needlessly torturing an insect by placing it in a pitcher plant.
